Good Morning! Today is Day 1.

****Study Hall Sign Ups****
Starting Monday, February 8th, students will have the opportunity to
sign up
to attend studyhall during their lunch period. Sign ups will be in
the Main Lobby
until 9:00 a.m. each morning. Students will be issued a pass when
they sign up.
Students will eat lunch first, then show pass to an adult in the
Cafeteria, then
proceed to Studyhall Room with study materials from locker. Sign ups
are limited
to a first come-first served basis. Available seats in each studyhall
are limited.

****Ski Club****
Skiers and Snowboarders please come to Room 149 during homeroom to get
a permission slip and choose your bus for this Saturday’s trip to
Catamount.
There is still room for new members in the ski club. Pick up forms in
the Main
Office or in Room 149.

****Business Electives****
Attention 8th Graders: Mrs. Goodall from the Business Education
Department
at RCK will be here on Wednesday, February 10th during all Lunch
periods.
She will be here to answer questions about business electives. She
will be at
a table outside the large cafeteria.

Snowflake Dance
The Student Government is selling tickets to the Snowflake Dance
scheduled
for Friday, February 12th during all lunch periods. Tickets cost $5.
There will
only be a limited number sold. Students who are assigned ISS/ISR will
not be
permitted to attend the dance.

Stage Crew
Stage Crew will meet today Thursday, Feb 4th, until 4:15PM. Please
wear
old clothes and arrange for transportation home.

****Girls Basketball****
Congratulations to the Girls Basketball team on their 50 to 32 victory
against
Mahopac on Tuesday. We wish them Good Luck on their away game today
against Arlington.

****Boys Basketball****
Good Luck to the Boys Basketball team as they play against Arlington
Middle
school beginning at 4:15PM. Please remember you must first go home
and
then return later if you are attending the game.

****Wappingers Crew Club****
A reminder to any student interested in the Wappingers Crew Club.
Tryouts today at 2:30PM are for names N through Z.

BOE Meeting
The Board of Education will meet on Monday, February 8, at 7:30 PM at
the District Office. All are welcome to attend.

****8th into 9th Grade Orientation Reminder****
Tonight beginning at 7PM there is a 8th into 9th Grade Parent Only
Orientation
at RCK. The counselors will discuss graduation requirements. At 7:30
p.m.,
our district coordinators of the various departments will chair small
group
meetings to answer any specific questions you might have for their
areas.
Please remember to bring your Course Handbooks with you.

Student Government Contest
Student Government is sponsoring a Black History Month Essay or Art
contest. The theme for the contest is: How has the Civil Rights
Movement made a Difference in the World? Please submit a 1 page essay
or art work to Mr. Ramirez by Monday, February 22nd. Winners will
receive gift certificates to Barnes and Noble.

Town of Wappingers Little League
Town of Wappingers will be having 2010 Little League registration on
the following dates:February 6, February 20 at Town Hall
on Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, NY from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. for
baseball & softball sign ups.

Captain's Council Contest
The Captain's Council is sponsoring a Tolerance or Anti-Bullying
poster and T-shirt design contest. Please submit your designs to the
Main Office by Friday, February 19th. The designs submitted to date
have been impressive and we hope for many more.

Academic Eligibility
Students must have an overall average of at least 70%, with no more
than one failure using the most recent quarter's grades available to
participate in Extra-curricular Activities. Students are asked to
please bring a copy of their report card to all tryouts to verify
their academic eligibility.

Project Homework Help
Any student interested in getting help with their homework please
come to the Project Homework Help Club which will meet in room 144.
You will need to sign up in the Main Office and receive a
pass if you wish to attend. Only students with passes will be
admitted. You will be able to take the late bus home.

Emergency Card Information
The Administrators, teachers and staff appreciate all the parents/
guardians who have returned their completed Emergency Contact cards.
Should any changes or updates happen to this information during the

Reporting School Absences
When you call for a student absence, please specify the reason for
the absence such as fever, headache, nausea, etc. so we can gather
and tabulate data as per the Department of Health requirement.

Parents are reminded to please send their son/daughter to school
only after they are symptom free for 24 hours (without the assistance
of fever reducing medication such as advil, tylenol, etc.)

Free Math Help and Tutoring
A community volunteer group is offering free math tutoring and
homework assistance to students in Grades 7 & 8. The sessions will
be from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesdays at Van Wyck JHS. More

Communication
Communication is extremely important to the Administrators, teachers
and staff at WJHS. Therefore, please remember that notes from
parents/ guardians on early dismissal, late arrivals, bus change or
any thing that effects your child would be greatly appreciated.

Building Guests/Visitors
All parents/guardians and guests are asked to enter the building
through the Main lobby or parking lot doors only. There are adults
monitoring these areas for safety reasons who will ask you to sign in
with a valid picture ID. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

****Box Tops for Education****
The Wappingers Junior High PTA will be collecting "Box Tops for
Education" throughout the school year. Please help us by cutting out
the "Box Tops for Education" labels on groceries you use and having
your student drop them off in the "Box Tops Bear," which is now
located at the monitor's desk in the main lobby before first period.
The PTA will receive 10 cents for each box top submitted. Feel free to
ask you
aunts, uncles, grandparents, neighbors and friends to help by
collecting and
donating their box tops as well. The money raised will be used for
activities
and equipment for the students at Wappingers Junior High. Thank you!
