****Cheerleading****
Congratulations to the WJHS Cheerleaders who placed 3rd at the
Westchester
County Competition. Nice Job Ladies! We are proud of you! Enjoy one
week
of no cheerleading practice.

****Wrestling Tryouts****
Wrestling Tryouts continue today at RCK. Transportation has provided
us
with a bus to transport the boys. If you have any questions please
contact
the coach.

****Girls Basketball****
Girls’ basketball tryouts are next week on Tuesday, December 1st from
3 to 4:30PM. Tryouts are not today. Please make sure you have a
physical
form on file with the nurse.

Toys for Tots
Our school is participating in the Toys for Tots drive to help
brighten the
holidays for thousands of children in Dutchess County. New unwrapped
toys
may be dropped off in the Main Office from November 30th to December
16th.

Handful of Pennies
We are also participating in a “Handful of Pennies” to purchase toys.
If you have any spare change please deposit it in the jar located on
the
counter in the Main Office from November 30th to December 4th.

Your generosity to both of these worthwhile causes is greatly
appreciated.

Field Hockey
Members of the Girls Field Hockey team are reminded that their
equipment
and uniforms must be returned by today Tuesday, November 24th.
If you do not return it by then you will be charged.

****Drama Update****
Drama Club’s next rehearsal for the entire cast of "The Music Man"
will be on Monday, November 30th from 7 to 8:30PM in the auditorium.

The schedules for December rehearsals are available in the hallway to
the
right of the stage. If you have any questions please see Ms. Nagel.

BOE Update
The Board of Education approved its 2009-2010 Goals at its November
16 meeting. The Goals are available at:

The Board will next meet on Monday, December 7 at 7:30 PM at the
District Office. All are welcome to attend.

Boys Basketball Tryouts
Tryouts are this Monday, November 23rd. Look for times posted in the
hallways. You will need to have a copy of your report card and your
travel sheet signed by your teachers. Be sure your physical is in to
the Nurse.

Times are as follows:
Tuesday, Nov. 24th: 8th Grade: 2:55 to 3:40PM
7th Grade: 4 to 5PM
Monday, Nov. 30th: 1st Cuts posted outside the gym doors
Combined tryouts 4 to 5:30PM
Tuesday, Dec. 1st: 2nd Cuts posted outside the gym doors
Combined tryouts 4 to 5:30PM
Wed., Dec. 2nd: 3rd. Cuts posted outside the gym doors
First practice 4 to 5:30PM

Everyone MUST have a ride home if tryouts go past 3:45PM. Boys should
bring sneakers, shorts and t-shirts. Additional information is
located outside the Main Office.

PTA Book Fair
The PTA will be sponsoring a Scholastic Book Fair at Wappingers
Junior High on December 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2009. Students will come
to the book fair during class periods on Tuesday or Wednesday or
Thursday. Students will be informed which day they will be visiting
the book fair, so that they can bring money on the appropriate day.

There will be a large variety of books and posters available to
purchase at the book fair. This is a great time to start doing some
holiday shopping and support your PTA at the same time! Please be
advised that we are required to charge sales tax of 8.125% on all
purchases.

Parents are welcome to come and shop during school hours. Please
sign in at the front desk and follow signs to the fair. Purchases
may be made with cash, checks (made payable to WJHS PTA) or credit
card.

If any parents would like to help out during the book fair, please

****Yearbooks****
Thank you to everyone who ordered Yearbooks. Please remember they will
be on sale again after the Thanksgiving break for $25.

Students please remember you must be dressed appropriately for the
weather if you wish to go outside during your lunch period.

Sports Physicals
Physicals for Winter Sports are now in progress. If you need a sports
physical please stop by the Health Office to schedule your
appointment.

Emergency Card Information
The Administrators, teachers and staff appreciate all the parents/
guardians who have returned their completed Emergency Contact cards.
Should any changes or updates happen to this information during the
school year please contact school.

Reporting School Absences
When you call for a student absence, please specify the reason for
the absence such as fever, headache, nausea, etc. so we can gather
and tabulate data as per the Department of Health requirement.

Parents are reminded to please send their son/daughter to school only
after they are symptom free for 24 hours (without the assistance of
fever reducing medication such as advil, tylenol, etc.)

Free Math Help and Tutoring
A community volunteer group is offering free math tutoring and
homework assistance to students in Grades 7 & 8. The sessions will
be from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesdays at Van Wyck JHS. More

Communication
Communication is extremely important to the Administrators, teachers
and staff at WJHS. Therefore, please remember that notes from
parents/ guardians on early dismissal, late arrivals, bus change or
any thing that effects your child would be greatly appreciated.

Building Guests/Visitors
All parents/guardians and guests are asked to please remember
that they will be asked to present valid picture ID when they enter

School Closing
Schools and Offices are closed from Wednesday to Friday, November
25th to November 27th for Thanksgiving Recess.
