School Closing
School is closed for students on Tuesday, November 3rd for
Superintendent Conference day.

****Boys Soccer****
The WJHS Boys Soccer team defeated Beacon 5 to 0. Great Job Boys!

****Captain Council****
There will be a Captain Council meeting on Tuesday, October 27th in
room
105 immediately after school. Only members with signed permission
slips
may attend.

****Field Hockey****
The Field Hockey team played an outstanding game on Friday!

****BOE Meeting****
The Board of Education will meet on Monday, October 26 at 7:30 PM at
the District Office. All are welcome to attend.

PTA Reflections
WJHS students are invited to participate in the PTA-sponsored fine
arts competition, Reflections. Individuals may submit work in one or
more of the following areas: photography, visual arts, literature,
musical composition, dance choreography, and film/video production.
The theme for this year's competition is "Beauty is......". Students
may sign
up in the Main Office throughout this week. The PTA will be asking
students to supply their name, homeroom number, email address and
home
phone number, so that we can contact them with rules, due dates, and
additional information about the program. If you have any questions

7th Grade Girl Day
Discover your power, beauty and strength. 7th Grade girls are invited
to register for a special day for girls at Dutchess Community
College. “Live Your Dream Girls’” Conference is on November 7th. Pre-
registration ends on November 2, 2009.

Emergency Card Information
The Administrators, teachers and staff appreciate all the parents/
guardians who have returned their completed Emergency Contact cards.
Should any changes or updates happen to this information during the
school year please contact school.

Reporting School Absences
When you call for a student absence, please specify the reason for
the absence such as fever, headache, nausea, etc. so we can gather
and tabulate data as per the Department of Health requirement.

Parents are reminded to please send their son/daughter to school only
after they are symptom free for 24 hours (without the assistance of
fever reducing medication such as advil, tylenol, etc.)

Free Math Help and Tutoring
A community volunteer group is offering free math tutoring and
homework assistance to students in Grades 7 & 8. The sessions will
be from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesdays at Van Wyck JHS. More

Communication
Communication is extremely important to the Administrators, teachers
and staff at WJHS. Therefore, please remember that notes from
parents/ guardians on early dismissal, late arrivals, bus change or
any thing that effects your child would be greatly appreciated.

Building Guests/Visitors
All parents/guardians and guests are asked to please remember
that they will be asked to present valid picture ID when they enter
our building.

Reminder that costume, and face or hair painting will not be allowed
on Friday, October 30th. All Administrators, faculty and staff
appreciate your cooperation in following this request.

November 2, 2009 - Candy Donations
There will be a collection of any candy students wish to donate to
the troops on Monday, November 2nd in the Main Office. Please do not
donate chocolates as it will melt during transportation.
