Good Morning! Today is Day 5.

Academic Eligibility
Students must have an overall average of at least 70%, with no more
than one failure using the most recent quarter's grades available to
participate in Extra-curricular Activities. Students are asked to
please bring a
copy of their report card to all tryouts to verify their academic
eligibility.

Dutchess BOCES Vote
The Dutchess BOCES Capital Construction Project Bond Referendum Vote
will take place on December 1 from 6 AM to 9 PM. Vote at Van Wyck
JHS.

****Winter Cheerleading****
Winter Cheerleading tryouts begin tonight at Myers Corners Elementary
school. Tryouts will begin at 5PM. Please have a ride home promptly
at
6:30PM. You must have your Athletic consent form turned in to the
nurse
today if you wish to attend tryouts. If you have any questions please
see
Ms. Spiers.

Wrestling Tryouts
Wrestling Tryouts continue Monday, November 30 through Thursday,
December 3rd. All practices are from 3 to 4:45 at RCK.
Transportation has provided us with a bus to transport the boys.

Project Homework Help
Any student interested in getting help with their homework please
come
to the Project Homework Help Club which will meet in room 144. You
will be
able to take the late bus home.

Girls Basketball
Girls’ basketball tryouts are today Tuesday, December 1st from
3 to 4:30PM. Please make sure you have a physical form on file with
the nurse.

Toys for Tots
Our school is participating in the Toys for Tots drive to help
brighten the holidays for thousands of children in Dutchess County.
New unwrapped toys may be dropped off in the Main Office from
November 30th to December 16th.

Handful of Pennies
We are also participating in a “Handful of Pennies” to purchase toys.
If you have any spare change please deposit it in the jar located on
the counter in the Main Office from November 30th to December 4th.
Your generosity to both of these worthwhile causes is greatly
appreciated.

Drama Update
The schedules for December rehearsals are available in the hallway to
the right of the stage. If you have any questions please see Ms.
Nagel.

The Board will next meet on Monday, December 7 at 7:30 PM at the
District Office. All are welcome to attend.

****Boys Basketball Tryouts Update****
Boys Basketball Tryouts continue today Tuesday, Dec. 1st. 2nd Cuts
have been posted outside the gym doors. Boys should report to Study
Hall this afternoon from 3 to 4:30PM. Please be sure to bring work to
do.
Tryouts are from 4:30 to 6PM. Make sure you have transportation home.

PTA Book Fair
The PTA will be sponsoring a Scholastic Book Fair at Wappingers
Junior High on December 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2009. Students will come
to the book fair during class periods on Tuesday or Wednesday or
Thursday. Students will be informed which day they will be visiting
the book fair, so that they can bring money on the appropriate day.
There will be a large variety of books and posters available to
purchase at the book fair. This is a great time to start doing some
holiday shopping and support your PTA at the same time! Please be
advised that we are required to charge sales tax of 8.125% on all
purchases.
Parents are welcome to come and shop during school hours. Please
sign in at the front desk and follow signs to the fair. Purchases
may be made with cash, checks (made payable to WJHS PTA) or credit
card.
If any parents would like to help out during the book fair, please

****Yearbook Meeting****
There will be a meeting for 8th graders on the Layout Yearbook staff
on
Thursday, December 3rd in room 102. You will take the 3:50 PM late
bus home.

Yearbooks can still be ordered in room 102 for $25 cash. Check will
not
be accepted. Please come down prior to 1st period.

****Stage Crew****
Stage crew will meet on Tuesday, December 1st until 4:15PM in room
223. Please wear old clothes and arrange for transportation home.

Recess
Students please remember you must be dressed appropriately for the
weather if you wish to go outside during your lunch period.

Emergency Card Information
The Administrators, teachers and staff appreciate all the parents/
guardians who have returned their completed Emergency Contact cards.
Should any changes or updates happen to this information during the
school year please contact school.

Reporting School Absences
When you call for a student absence, please specify the reason for
the absence such as fever, headache, nausea, etc. so we can gather
and tabulate data as per the Department of Health requirement.
1Parents are reminded to please send their son/daughter to school
only
after they are symptom free for 24 hours (without the assistance of
fever reducing medication such as advil, tylenol, etc.)

Free Math Help and Tutoring
A community volunteer group is offering free math tutoring and
homework assistance to students in Grades 7 & 8. The sessions will
be from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesdays at Van Wyck JHS. More

Communication
Communication is extremely important to the Administrators, teachers
and staff at WJHS. Therefore, please remember that notes from
parents/ guardians on early dismissal, late arrivals, bus change or
any thing that effects your child would be greatly appreciated.

****Building Guests/Visitors****
All parents/guardians and guests are asked to enter the building
through
the Main lobby or parking lot doors only. There are adults monitoring
these
areas for safety reasons who will ask you to sign in with a valid
picture ID.
