Hello:

I am quite happy with Wink version 2.0 on the PC,
but spend most of my time in front of a Linux box
at work. The Linux 1.5 version of Wink lacks the
ability to place multiple text boxes and random shape
annotations on a frame. (It really appears to be an
older version as the version number implies even though
it appears to use the same "build number" (1060) ? )

How do I get my hands on a version of Wink for Linux
which is the same as that provided for the PC (2.0).

Thanks.

Bill

1.5 is the latest version of Wink for Linux.

Yes. That is the problem...
A better version of wink (able to place multiple text boxes
and random shape annotations)  is available for the PC, but
I spend most of my time in front of a Linux box wishing I could
record and (especially) post process Wink presentations with
the same version of Wink that I can on a PC.

Obviously source code exists which implements the PC/2.0
feature set. I just need the man in charge to compile, link and
release it for Linux.

Please Mr. Man-in-charge...

Remember its FREEWARE
produced by satish in his frre time for nowt.

Theres a limit to how many features can be incorporated.
Use it simply, singly and sensibly and it'll work.
There is a follow up version being planned -but I know nothing about
its impending arrival,
when how, what or where. Sorry.

I'm very much aware that wink is freeware, but wonder if a version for
x86_64 machines is planned. I'd very much like to use the application
on my 64-bit Ubuntu Karmic setup....

Version 1.5 will never behave like 2.0 no matter how
simply I use it. Also, I am not asking for new features
Just recompile 2.0 for Linux.

...unless your Windows and Linux versions do not use
the same code base in which case you made a big mistake.
Rewrite using Qt or, better yet, open source and
we will do it for you.

+1

Wink is not available on karmic because of a library change, however
if a packaged is available, it will still be the old version 1.5
(2006).

Anyway, any request other than support are probably vain on this
board, since the Wink forum is closed and the software is not in
(active?) dev. for years.

Bugs (like the Windows manager preventing menus capture on Linux) are
never likely to be fixed and that's a pity. Wink beats all the
counterparts for software presentation.

Have you noticed the build numbers? 1.5 is Wink 2.0 for Windows
"recompiled" for Linux. The "feature" differences have to do with the
differences in the OS's and not differences in the builds.

so we - Linux users - are done?

stripped down version, bug ridden (see bug below) and no more
developed. Such great piece of soft, what a shame.

> 5. Capturing doesn't work under Linux when a menu is open 1718
The capture hotkeys may (DOES) not work when a menu is open in any
application because the window manager takes control of the keyboard
and wink does not receive the events. As a workaround you can start
timed capture just before opening the menu and keep it capturing shots
as you open the menu and click on the menu item, then stop timed
capture.

Not even sure if the library will be updated for Karmic. Let's hope
though.

Wink 1.5 build 1060 available for Linux (Tue Jun 21, 2005 1:27 pm)
Wink 2.0 build 1060 (bugfix release) for Windows released. (Fri Dec
21, 2007 7:53 pm)

Does anyone - Chirs Moderator or somebody else - is in touch with
Satish? Why is this software in the abandon? it is so much better than
recording a video.

Satish is working on a new version in his spare time;
but he has a job and family too
and the work is rather detailed.

I'm looking forward to the new version too!

Hi everyone,

I also share your enthusiasm at the news of a new version of Wink on
its way. Not long ago I have contacted Sathish by email regarding 3
questions about Wink [see: 1] This is not news anymore (see Satish's
post about the future Wink dev.) but It might interest the Linux-
Ubuntu users on Karmic (since Wink 1.5 is no more in the repository
because of a problem of library), and in a more general way every Wink
users on Linux:

Thanks for informing, I'll look into it and see if I can publish an
updated binary.

I have not found a way around this, so not going to fix it.

I understand, I'm working on the next version of Wink and plan to
release the code as open source as soon as it is in a usable shape.
