yes, one or two of us here should go over there and engage them, I'm guessing it will be at least you :)
knowing what consitutes an acceptable proposal should help us focus, assuming we go that route...

This was the route that I wanted to go from the beginning but I felt
that much of the discussion there, although helpful at times, gets
bogged down in philosophical arguments and often seems to be arguing
for the sake of arguing. For that reason and since I thought it was
important for us to figure out as a group where we wanted to take these
concepts, I started this email group. All along I felt that if the
need/desire for wine microformat(s) arose from our discussions, we
would take them to the microformats community and work through their
process. You should know that even some of the people on the
microformat discussion group itself suggested this approach to me in
direct emails after I re-surfaced the topic of wine and microformats on
that list.
IMO, the microformat community has some fundamental process related
issues that need to be worked out before microformats can be more
effectively used in vertical markets such as wine. Don't get me wrong,
though. I think microformats bring a great deal of value to our problem
domain right now but ultimately we need a way to express information
specific to the wine world. I'm speaking of elements like vintage,
producer, varietal(s), region, alcohol, and so on. The microformat
community seems to be split on which way to go on this: enable and
support vertical microformats such as hWine or develop an extendable
hItem that can be used to express things like wine.
I am willing to continue our discussion on the microformat list but I
just want everyone to know what that entails

I agree it may be too early to jump onto the microformat list, but use
this opportunity to develop a core set of defined rules, needs and then
present it to a larger community.
I am new to the microformats discussion at this group and think this
would be a great concept to introduce to our online wine professionals
at http://www.WineMarketer.com who represent an ideal sample of the
potential contributors and users of this standard.

Maybe what we have done with vinoXML (http://www.vinoxml.org/) can be
used as the basis for what is needed for microformat. I still hope that
one could do the microformat with some transformation technology, but I
don't have the know how nor the time at the moment to investigate this
further.
We have just recently started work on version 1.1 of vinoXML and welcome
anyone with interest in this type of standard to participate in the
dicussion.
