Hi Tim,
That was me. I got a decent hour or so in. Had a blast with the bow
kite! That thing turns fast, but I'm actually having some issues with
my board. It's a little too small for me, and I really had to work
just to ollie to TS, much less any jump higher than 2 feet. I'm also
struggling a little with the timing on my kite, but I love learning
that sort of stuff. There were two other kiters out there with me,
Martin and Dirk. Dirk is from Germany, here for 6 months, and at the
end of his session, he unleashed a HUGE jump, easily 20 feet.
The main problem for me at the lake was landing. That grassy knoll had
a weird wind shadow. Twice tried to come in, and twice my kite came
down. So much for keeping it dry. On the second and final entry, I
accidently pushed my control bar into "OverRide" mode. It fell like a
ton of bricks, about two feet away from a nice log on the beach. I was
freaking out, mainly b/c I was in the water still, and thought I
busted a line the way the kite fell. I found out it was the OverRide
feature as I was packing up, and the kite wasn't damaged, so overall a
good (and cheap) learning experience.
That wind direction was great at the lake (WNW). Gusty often, but the
convenience is worth it IMO. Can't go out tomorrow b/c of work, but
man I want to!
