I drove through around 4pm today (monday) and noticed a kite rigged on the beach. Wanted to stop, but had to get home and do stuff.
Really curious who was there, and how it worked for them.
Saw a couple windsurfers there too. Two where on the water, and I saw someone with a windsurfing trailer appearing to change clothes in the parking lot.
That was me. I got a decent hour or so in. Had a blast with the bow
kite! That thing turns fast, but I'm actually having some issues with
my board. It's a little too small for me, and I really had to work
just to ollie to TS, much less any jump higher than 2 feet. I'm also
struggling a little with the timing on my kite, but I love learning
that sort of stuff. There were two other kiters out there with me,
Martin and Dirk. Dirk is from Germany, here for 6 months, and at the
end of his session, he unleashed a HUGE jump, easily 20 feet.
The main problem for me at the lake was landing. That grassy knoll had
a weird wind shadow. Twice tried to come in, and twice my kite came
down. So much for keeping it dry. On the second and final entry, I
accidently pushed my control bar into "OverRide" mode. It fell like a
ton of bricks, about two feet away from a nice log on the beach. I was
freaking out, mainly b/c I was in the water still, and thought I
busted a line the way the kite fell. I found out it was the OverRide
feature as I was packing up, and the kite wasn't damaged, so overall a
good (and cheap) learning experience.
That wind direction was great at the lake (WNW). Gusty often, but the
convenience is worth it IMO. Can't go out tomorrow b/c of work, but
man I want to!

Damn, I should have stopped and said hi. Sounds like Creve Ceour lake worked out OK for you then. Everytime I try it, all heck breaks loose.....but then again I am not very experienced.
It is VERY good news to me that people are making CC work; as all other locations are just not very "learning-mode" friendly.
Did you self-launch/land or was someone around to assist?

By next year, we may have more kiters than windsurfers in the St. Louis area.

Watching the windsurfers who could successfully launch. :)

Martin helped me launch and Dirk helped me land. Now that I understand
the safety feature of my kite, I have no hesitation about self landing
anywhere. Also, that bow kite launches of the water so easily, I'm not
afraid of doing that anywhere. With my C, unless the wind is high, I
really have to work to get it off the water, especially if the water
is deep. Did I say how much I love my new kite?
