Thanksgiving day windsurfing at Creve Couer.

put wet suit on over dry suit. stayed warm except for feet which were numb the whole time. was on the water for 2.5 hours.  had a few good runs but got out too late for the good wind. need to get boots that are real thick.  If i can figure out how to keep feet warm with like 10 mil boots I can withstand much colder days and water.  only fell in once and was warm.  my new Advanced Hull Design board from the House (the house bought the mold and made the skin thicker and sold it as a house brand).  My new board is slow because of the drag because it is a wide board.  But when I get a gust it jumps up on plane real fast. Because it is wide and short it bounces and skips across the water like a flat wide skipping rock. This board likes to get airborne with heavier wind, that is real fun.  I had a chance a month ago to do a forward loop but jumped off.  I hit no wave but took off up in the air because of a huge big gust and could easily have kept going up but I bailed. I have been studying forward loops on line and next time I get big air I think I can do it.
If anyone wants to ride this board you are welcome to it.  Windcatcher.

Mystery solved!  A friend of mine (who knows I windsurf) and his mother saw you out windsurfing on Thanksgiving!  I said I knew it wasn't Rich or Wes but I was sure it was someone from the group!  I am 14 days post-op on my ACL surgery and 4 1/2 months post op on my shoulder surgery so will be back to windsurfing soon.  Doc cleared me to ride my Harley 7 days post-op and my shoulder has been cleared since 1 October.  Plan on making up for all the windsurfing I missed the last two years due to surgeries.  Wes although I don't have any broken bones (knock on wood - unless a fractured tibia counts) I probably have had surgery on or removal of more body parts then the average bear LOL!  Got some nice scars to prove it but fortunately they disappear after about a year so a lot of them are hard to find now!

I know there are a lot of newer people on the forum now.  I do have 4 or 5 beginner boards and a full quiver of sails, come spring Chris I would love to hook up with you and do some beginner lessons.  I was certified in England but haven't been able to get as much consistent time in on the board since I have returned stateside.  Hopefully with working in KC, I will be able to get out much more in the coming months.

If anyone knows of anyone selling a dry suit, I take a Men's M or possibly a L if I wear layers under it. I also have several wetsuits that I am willing to loan out for practice sessions etc as well.  Fortunately most of mine are too big for me now!!!!!

Hope everyone had a great THANKSGIVING!

I use two pair of socks under the booties. Either thin men's nylon dress socks or polypropylene socks against the foot. Then i pull on medium thick wool socks. My feet stayed warm in 23 degree weather at Carlyle in 1996.

We did a lot of winter sailing in '96. Check the Feb 4, 1996 session report linked below:

I was able to get over 100 hours sailing on Carlyle that year. Chris and I were competing for Carlyle hours. :-) We wrote reports for every sailing session that year. It would take hours to read them all.

For those interested in old session reports, go to http://groups.google.com/group/windfunstl/ and click on the "About this Group" link on the right side of the page. You will then see a calendar from which to choose the year and month to read session reports and other posts. Some group statistics are also there to view.

If anyone is interested in nice knitted wool socks to use for windsurfing let me know.  I knit socks and absolutely love my knitted wool socks!  They are great for cold weather and I even wear them three seasons since they are soooo comfortable.  I make them to order and as wild or as tame as you want!  Guess I should design ones with a windsurfing logo on them!

Hey Anna, I would be totally interested in some wool socks !  both for me and for my wife, and my brother would probably be interested too.

And you are right, wool is awesome.  I wear "smart wool" year round, so much better than cotton.

So how do I order some?  Custom socks sounds just awesome.

Anna,

Glad to hear your are also on the mend. I look forward to meeting you
this spring/summer and being introduced to
windsurfing. I did take 1 lesson about 20 years ago in Dallas, but
moved to Chicago shortly thereafter and did not
pursue it. I've been watching windsurfing videos on youtube every day
since I've been laid-up, and it looks like a lot of fun. I never had
any desire to jump while kiting, so I suspect much of what I loved
about kiting, I'll also find in
windsurfing. I should be walking on my own again by around mid-
February.

Rich, that session report is just off the charts.  I remember when you posted it thinking:  I think he's had a nervous breakdownWho the hell sails at Carlyle, by himself in 23 degree weather?
A classic for sure.

Ted you have a ways to go.
