Sounds like a nice day, would've been a great 6.5 day. Monday was a BIG day. Dan, Tammy, Ed, Charlie, Rich, Matt M, and I launched from Dam East. Sail ranges went from 4.2 to 5.5. I settled on a 4.6 and had a couple of ripping hours. Matt sailed a 7 meter kite for about 30 minutes but came in because it was just getting too windy. He did take a bunch of pics which will hopefully show up somewhere. Everyone had a great time, with Dan getting to sail a new board and Rich logging lots of water time. Did anyone sail CC lake?
Saturday looks cool and windy.....but the upside is, the water is still warm.

Tomorrow is looking good for Harbor Lights. Time to take a "personal day" or have that "doctor's appointment". On Monday I used the old standby "I'm leaving to attend a Board Meeting". Nobody can fault you for that. :)
Matt & I will be there after 1pm.

Not sure what this is. Hobie never made any sailboards. Plus sailboards don't have "rudders". Hobie did make a small twin hulled cheap "catamaran" which tried to compete with daysailers like Lasers and Sunfish. Perhaps that's what this is. --- On Wed, 9/30/09, Paul Todd Merrill <Merr...@Claycorp.com> wrote:

I changed the Subject for posterity. I had no choice but to log lot of time. I tore my latex glove during a duck jibe and came to shore about 45 minutes into my first session on a 4.8 sail and Tiga 260 to replace the glove. Charlie chided me with "What happened to 'four hour Rich'". I was taken by surprise and uttered I was getting older and had only windsurfed 3 times in the last 12 months. Someone else ( I better not mention who, but he can take credit in a follow-up email) advised that "a man is only as old as the women he feels." So, I logged 4.5 hours in three sessions. I also have to give credit to the wind condition that lasted so long such that I was pretty much dialed in the entire time, and for the cool conditions preventing dehydration. The conditions were a solid 4.8 between noon (maybe earlier if we had gotten there sooner) until 5:30 when I started slogging. Ed got at least 3.5 hours. Chris wore himself out pointing and jibing as fast as possible, so he could hog the camera shots from Matt :-) Chris usually disappears from sight on each reach. He had the option to go all the way to Boulder, as I think Ed may have. <grin> 4.5 hour Rich --- On Wed, 9/30/09, Chris Mihill <cmi...@sbcglobal.net> wrote:

Actually, the 4.2 sail never hit the water. I came in overpowered on a 4.8 about 2:00. By the time I rerigged, the wind dropped to the lowest it had been between noon and 5:30. That was fortunate for Matt, whom I then helped launch his kite. Even under the lower wind conditions, the kite was strongly powered. I finally gave up waiting for it to blast back to 4.2 conditions (which in fact 4.2 conditions only lasted about 10 minutes (I had suffered in it with the 4.8 for eight of those minutes) re-rigged again to 4.8 and waited for it to get back to 4.8. As I dressed for relaunching in the rebuilding wind, Matt came in, and I struggled catching his overpowered kite. Matt looked comfortable on the kite when he was sailing, getting some fantastic jumps, but he advised it was a struggle in winds a bit too strong for his 10 kite, even though they were that lightest winds at the time. I deemed it to risky for me to launch my 8 kite that day.

Dear Mr. Iron Man:
For $125 you can probably buy a second used mast and boom and you won't have to be re-rigging all the time.

Hey how often do we have a professional photographer shooting a windsurfing session in perfect conditions?! I'm surprised not more of you took advantage of this and joined me in some "high speed dock dives". :) Although one of mine came dangerously close and almost ended my sailing career.

Matt, Juan and I stoped at Dam East around 1:30. Wind was 20-25 and not completely filled it. Decided to drive to Coles Creek where the wind was blasting. Completely filled in with a base of 25. Matt launched his 7 meter and Juan his 9 from the northside bay. The waves were curling in and both had a great session with Matt doing 360 jumps, nose grabs and a few sky shots. I on the other hand couldn't decide on 4.0 or 4.6, 8-3 or 9-0 board and by the time I went out on my 4.6 on the 9-0 the wind started backing off. Not feeling the vibe and not wanting to rig a 5.5 I grabbed Matt's camera and shot 200 pics of them sailing.
A fitting end to a week that began with Matt, sitting on the shore because of too much wind, shooting pics of the rest of us ripping.
Dan-Tammy....you guys made the right call in staying at Dam East. Coles Creek was WAY windier with a steep nasty chop.
I haven't checked the forecast for today but it's already windy here. However, I'm committed to 2 soccer games and 1 boys scout event.

West at 14. Looks like a very rideable day for both kiters and windsurfers at Carlyle.

Well done! Dannny & Tammy score 3 very good days at the big lake this week! Almost tops that week last year when they went 4 days with a possible 5th missed because of lack of energy.
Let's hope for a repeat this week since the season is quickly coming to a close..
