Butterflies in Alfalfa Fields

Butterfles in alfalfa hay
a little girl runs today
waves of yellow in the blue
and little feet wet with dew
a cotton dress in the breeze
little purple flowers and clover leaves

Chase after us without a care
and let the wind blow through your hair
Run, follow, stretch out your hand
Try and catch us if you can
You get so close we have to yield'
Butterflies in alfalfa fields

Little girl what is your plan
if you catch us if you can
Will you catch us - we'll take our chance
try and catch us and learn to dance
Come follow us and spred your wings
We'll make you happy and want to sing

We'll show you flowers in the sun
and lucky clover where you run
Dip, turn, glide and spin
We'll teach you how to catch the wind
What's better on a summer's day
than spread your wings and fly away

The hands of time go round and round
Blonde may someday turn to brown
The wide wide world will make you roam
but may your dreams always take you home
to butterflies in alfalfa hay
where a little girl flew away

Someday a baby will be at your breast
the world's exictements made manifest
for in your arms your dreams will bloom
the dreams that always take you home
where butterflies are waiting to play
and your little one will run someday

Chase after us without a care
and let the wind blow through your hair
Run, follow and stretch out your hand
try and catch us if you can
You get so close we have to yield
butterflies in alfalfa fields

Little one what is your plan
if you catch us if you can
Will you catch us, we'll take our chance
Try to catch us and learn to dance
Come follow us and spread your wings
We'll make you happy and want to sing

We'll show you flowers in the sun
and lucky clover where you run
Dip, turn, glide nd spin
We'll teach you how to catch the wind
What's better to do on a summer's day
than spread your wings and fly away
