I was told by a guy at a windsurf shop (don't remember which) said cold water makes white caps at a higher wind speed and warm water makes white caps at a lower wind speed. cold water is denser until it freezes. a board should have better floatation in colder water since the water is denser. water being less wavey when cold I would imagine those two features would make sailing faster in the same wind speed than in warm water. I would imagine a colder board would flex less and hold its form better. These are just guesses but I am convincing myself cold water sailing is probably faster. Larry said when he sailed next to the ice his board was going fast and his board made a swishing noise he had not heard before. The wind was blowing over the ice toward him. He said he had totally flat water with alot of wind and as the result he went fast. Ted
