Hi All,

I've got a pressing project and seek your help. (My first posting here.)

First question: What research is out there that I can review and cite
in a grant application that addresses the use of wikis in teaching
literacy?

URLs?

I want to get a camp established in Pittsburgh, PA, USA that has to
meet Title I (NCLB) regulations to get funding. So, it needs to prove
a researched based educational model in the application, due next
week. Our camp is going to focus on reading, editing, reacting to,
presenting, authoring wiki pages about sports.

I've just begun to post some info on the main wikieducator page:
http://www.wikieducator.org/Olympicpedia

More here: http://aforathlete.wikia.com/wiki/PPS_RFPs_for_2010_Summer

Thanks for your help. Have a good weekend.

Ta.

Hi All,

One of our OER Friends, Ruth Rominger from the Monterey Institute of Technology and Education (www.montereyinstitute.org) suggested this site - http://www.globalkids.org/

Thanks,

- Randy

Hi Mark,

Do take a look at the Murder Madness and Mayhem project --- A professor at the University of British Columbia who assigned a project for students to develop articles in Wikipedia to attain featured article status:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Murder_Madness_and_Mayhem

I've not looked myself yet -- but I'm sure if you Google the project title you may find research publications on the project.

Also get in touch with Declan Mcabe from St Michaels College and his WE project on Biology for Elementary Schools where students work on the wiki as part of their curriculum;

http://wikieducator.org/Biology_in_elementary_schools

Nellie Deutsch, in Israel has done some pioneering work with her high school students at Ort Gutmann using the wiki to support her teaching of writing skills. (http://wikieducator.org/Ort_Gutman_High_School)

A few pointers to get started.

Cheers
Wayne

Another place to contact to ask about your Title I (NCLB) regulations
to get funding - wikispaces.com

http://www.wikispaces.com/about

They have a huge user base of U.S. schools and they may have come
across similar situations to yours.

There may be some small action research type things - instructors
writing about their own classroom experience as a paper with data.
However, these may not satisfy your funders. The folks at wikispaces
may have that information.

If you find anything, please post here. I'd love to know the
answer :o)
