Dear Wayne,

I had applied for L4C workshop bounty a month ago
and i am disappointed that process has taken over a month and i have
got school administration skeptic about my intentions to organize the
workshop. I did expect that there would be redtape in COL's processes
but didn't know that it would take ONE MONTH. I wonder if you can look
into that and ensure the release of payment ? I wonder how many people
would be encouraged by that bureaucracy. Patricia has done a real good
job of keeping me abreast with updates but as now that she is sick, i
wonder who is in charge. I am really sorry that no one has stepped up
and looked into it. I wonder if thats the way we are going to treat
WEs in this community. Savithri has applied for the L4C workshop on
Gandhi's Birthday and i assume there would be a lot of other people
interested in organizing workshops, and if that's how we are going to
treat them, i don't think thats encouraging and even respectful to
them. Since you are out of office too, or i would have called
personally, i was wondering if you could point at someone.

Thanks

Minhaaj - was that you briefly in the IR Chatroom last week at the Heywire meeting?
Sorry about the erratic video feed . . .
We did have a good meeting, nice coffee, good company, stuffy room, WiFi, but lots of ideas flowing.  (Bliss)

(If it wasn't you, just ignore this post)

Dear Minhaaj,

Thank you for your concern and queries. Wayne has been on the road for
the past three weeks and will only be in one day tomorrow before he
departs for another workshop the whole of next week. He will be back in
the office full-time on September 8. I know he always tried to respond
to queries as best as possible even while travelling.

I have been very unwell and away from the office as you know. Today is
my first day back at work. I will look into this for you immediately, so
we can get this issue sorted out.

Please note that you are of value to us, please reassure your school
administrations. We completely understand your frustrations but please
also bear in mind that it is only Wayne and I at this end, who look
after administrative things. In your case, the red tape did take longer
than expected but it is partly due to extraordinary circumstances and
business practices we do not normally carry out, having to send money
through ways we do not normally use. It looks simple but is not as
simple to change established business practices at our end. Apologies
for the frustrations you had to endure.

Warm regards,
Patricia

Dear Patricia,

Before i say something, i must applaud your
follow up on this issue and despite your health problems, you have
been very supportive and helpful in this regards. My purpose for
posting this thread was not to blame anyone for something that some
might thing is my personal problem (which i am not convinced is my
personal issue, as L4C is a collective mission that anyone can carry
forward in their own reigons). My intent was to promote a discussion
as to how to simplify this process and make it easier for WEs to
understand and not be deterred by the red tape. As you said you had to
mould yourself to my needs and new requirements, this will be the case
as we have more enrollment in WE and diverse population joining this
fabulous community. I believe this about time we start discussion on
facilitating those diverse populations and make WE more accessible to
people who live in geographical reigons where WE has not been promoted
before.

I am amazed to see your dedication with project and your concerns
about my security (recall our conversation about emailing personal
info). I have no doubts that people like you are assets of COL and
will make it one of the best institutions around the world. My purpose
was just to start a discussion about simplifying the process and
creating criteria and process of payments. I encourage other members
to contribute their ideas on this.

Dear Minhaaj,

Your point is well taken and naturally, we are always looking out for better business practices, to accommodate our WikiEducators in those remote areas that are hard to reach.

It comes with the territory that business practices will differ and one will have to look for alternative ways, to accommodate requests that come through. You can rest assured, both Wayne and I, will always do our best to make this happen, in the best possible way.

While I appreciate your suggestion of wanting to have a discussion and it certainly wouldn't hurt - the challenges lie within established business practices and ways of doing things. Wanting to change these is a challenge in itself but it is most certainly a good idea to have this conversation, to see where things can be adjusted, to better suit the need.

You are the first facilitator we are running into this challenge with, so it is a learning curve for us as well.

I have just followed up with our accounting department and I will hopefully be able to send you the agreed upon funds later today.

Hi Patricia,
I hope you are feeling better. I am very proud to be a member of WE where integrity is valued above all and where the administration does its utmost to understand and cater to the needs of other cultures and their circumstances. Your post is heart warming. :)

Thank you.
Nellie

Dear Minhaaj,

I'm sorry I missed this post during my recent travels to the South Pacific. Internet connectivity was intermittent as best.

Payments for Learning4Content workshops are made in arrears after the successful completion of the workshop as specified in the Learning4Content contract issued and signed by facilitators who submit an expression of interest to host a workshop. The facilitators guidelines are available on the wiki:

http://wikieducator.org/Learning4Content/Facilitators

Cheers
Wayne
