That program only converts 3 mins unless you purchase the license, I didnt test it under wine or anything so I would assume it only runs on windows. I guess windows users have cracks and key generators or something.

If your going to use proprietary software check this out, I think these programs run under wine as well and the howto seems good.
http://elliottback.com/wp/how-to-rip-a-dvd-a-tutorial/

looking at Carols userpage makes me think she could run up a unix like system and install acidrip in 30mins.
http://untrepid.com/acidrip/

Though I dont really get the "my video is in power dvd" or "i tried to convert to Windows player", sounds like shes talking about the player.

In the end she wants to convert her video to Ogg Theora

Dear friends,

Lot of powerful Free & Open Video Capturing/editing/coverting
applications are available now. For example see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kino_(software)

You may also search at http://directory.fsf.org/ for more options.

Warm regards

I would agree with Chris here.

It looks like she wants to convert from one video format to another. In addition to Chris's recommendation I would recommend ffmpeg. It is known for being able to convert between a large number of formats.
It is a command line tool and has a large number of options, but is easy to learn.

Alternatively she could use mplayer
which uses ffmpeg for its conversion. A list of windows versions is at http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/projects.html#windows

Best Regards,
John

If all this is too technical for ya, quick and dirty ways are to try making a screenrecording of the playing video... either:
  • with screen recording software like Camstudio (free to windows only)
  • by sending the signal to a camera through a computer's SVideo line
  • or just by recording the screen with a camera on a tripod

I did say quick and dirty.

Hello everyone,

Am grateful for the help i have receieved from several members here
sorry took sometime to know the link.
The project am working on is Service Learning and alink to the video
make
in the Kaltura collaboration has been made.
I was able to upload the videos into Kaltura after converting it to
windows media player because
ater several attempts kaltura vieo collaboration could not recognise
the video in its original format
of DVD which was powerDVD.
This brought aquestion does Kaltura collboration video support only
videos of windows player maker
or it can support other video formats otherthan WVM ? If so how can
they be recognised on browsing and uploaded into the kaltura video.

Because with conversion of the videos to windows player there
consquences some video clips are mising out so
i would like to leave the videos in there original format and seek
help on how Kaltura collaboration video can still
recognise them when browsed for upload.

Thank you
Godbless
Carolyn.

Kaltura supports a variety of video formats:
http://www.kaltura.com/devwiki/index.php/Supported_Media_Formats
and then transcodes them to FLV for playback.
