Although in general a "page-name/edit/true" will automatically edit
page "page-name", but it doesn't seem to do so if page-name includes
an underscore (_). E. g. "_template/edit/true" doesn't edit page
"_template"

I checked it, this is true. Well _template/edit/true does not work,
because page templates were designed later than /edit/true system and
someone didn't predicted that it would not work :). Michal told me to
remind him this issue in a couple of days, after resolving current
custom domain problem, so soon /edit/true structure will be unified.
