Tonight's meeting notes (we were quick!). We'll be meeting again next Thursday, same time and place (Produce Row 7pm, come hang out before and after)
Space: Metro We have rooms reserved More official this year- GIS team involved Justin will continue to follow up Waiting for cost details - should be similar to last year
Friday party space options: The cleaners NedSpace Possibly Open Sourcery - ask Brian Jamison?
Saturday night: Can we use PIE again?
Sunday options: Backspace / Nedspace
Food/coffee/etc. Can we get non-cash donations? Can we recruit national level sponsors? Talk to ecotrust (Howard silverman) about local food contacts
Financial structure Audrey will set up this year's spreadsheet Reid will follow up on working with technocation
We need attendees! We need to write an invite/announcement - up for grabs if you want to work on it Outreach targets - GIS users, academic community, local and state government, locative gaming people, mobile developers, people like Max, local employees of national geo-companies We should recruit guest blog posts
We need supplies! Including signage
What's the state of the wiki? Needs some cleanup, new home page for this year
We need games for Sunday and the Friday party!
Since we know how to plan this event, let's have geo-happy hour meetings - business at 7 then social on either side of it
This looks great! Sorry I couldn't make it but looks like you all made some good progress. I drafted a letter to Bob Haas with Deschutes GIS. He was the one that mentioned to me that he may be able to convince the board at URISA to support something like Wherecamp. If anything, they have a pretty big mail list. Here's the gist:
---- Greetings Bob, My name is Rafael Gutierrez and I'm with the folks that were working on CrisisCamp for the Haiti Disaster Relief. I met you briefly after my talk on the OSM Base Mapping project at the URISA conference. I recall you mentioning the possibility of URISA providing some form of sponsorship for future events and wanted to inform you of WhereCamp if you are not already aware of it. WhereCamp is essentially a local unconference that takes place in many cities that facilitates the collaboration of geospatial specialists with web and neo-geographers. It is a very grassroots effort with minimal organization but highly involved participation. The unconference, if you are not aware of the concept, basically means that people show up on the day of the event and choose tracks or topics to discuss. Sometimes they are suggested before hand to give people some guidance but largely, it's developed on the fly. There are many other unconferences out there such as ThatCamp (a digital humanities unconference) and FooCamp (a programmer unconference) which are other similar events. Topics will range from crowdsourcing spatial data to smartphone mapping applications. The event is usually two days with a keynote, code sprint, and group activity/game/event.
We are in the beginning phases of planning for our fall WhereCamp and at a minimum, we would like to extend the invitation to you and all the URISA members. When our plans are finalized and the event gets publicized, we will let you know more details regarding the date (the location will most likely be at Metro in Portland).
If you think that URISA may be interested in assisting with event in any fashion, please let me know and I will include you in as many details you wish to be a part of as they develop. Thanks for your interest and I look forward to hearing from you.
---- Let me know what you think or if you have feedback that could make this sound better.

Thanks for helping with the outreach. Our plans to use Metro for the unconference are set, so you can let him know we'll be there on Sept. 25th. Reid also threw up a RSVP form on Eventbrite: http://wherecamppdx10.eventbrite.com/ It still needs a proper description to be filled in, but we can start collecting a headcount now, so we know how many people to expect.

I'm actually on the URISA board now, and talked to Bob Poole and the
others of the event-planning subcommittee about this a few weeks ago!
We would like to sponsor a URISA event on the Friday before
WhereCampPDX that would be an invited speaker, or a liveDVD demo or
something (see my other post...).
Did you send your email to Bob yet? I can follow up with him, and Bob
Poole, too!
Cheers,
Percy
