'Jeevit Ya Mrit' ('Living or Dead')
Jeebito o Mrito confirms presence by absence. The woman's body remains, it would seem in this story, on the borderline, visible/invisible; material/immaterial; tangible/intangible. Geetanjali Shree's adaptation of Jeevit ya Mrit is written up as a monologue, a soliloquy, tracing the inner journeys of Kadambari through dream, desire, and hallucination, after she wakens amidst the detritus of death in the cremation ground. And believes herself to be dead.
