OUTDOORS: by Ferran Mendoza & Alvaro Sau
56 min., recorded in HDV.
The look at the Outdoors is as old as the cities but, unfortunately, it usually imposes an idealized and simplified vision over a more complex reality.
Using lightweight equipment, we have traveled through the Basque-French border trying to approach the inhabitants of this territory and the places where they live and work with the greatest respect for their gestures, their words, and the way they fill their intimate space. We have been looking for our characters in this kind of frontier land which we call the outskirts, a place in which all ornaments of our mass media landscape are torn apart and where the most archaic ways of living coexist with the remains of the industrial world.
Alvaro Sau Razquin
Alvaro Sau Razkin, born in the Basque country on 1981, started his artistic career as a painter, but soon the video format caught his attention. He got involved in abstract investigations on the purest notions of time, rhythm and sound process. As he was getting used to the language of the image –editing and time-, he began to develop a personal narrative way of explaining the places, atmospheres, faces and gestures that he uses as the material for his works.
