salut,

there seems to be a rather new weatherstation from oregon scientific
coming in a *very* interesting package:

http://bit.ly/umRyoK

this "USB Communications Hub" looks suspiciously similar to the
WMRS200 receiver, i would be surprised if there was some completely
different hardware inside.. unfortunatley there isn't much info to
find about it yet - has anyone happened to get his hands on one of
those?

i'm about to order one, but i'm no coder and probably won't be able to
get this working with wfrog myself - and if - it probably wouldn't be
in a form one could contribute to the project to be reused by others..
but i would happily provide access via ssh to a fresh debian-box
hooked to it if someone is willing to have a look at it..

cheers,
markus.

According to some reports like http://sandaysoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6546&start=10, it loks like using the same protocol as WMR100/WMRS200.

for the records: WMR180 usb-receiver works fine with wfrog, selected
WMRS200 at installation.

compared to the WRMS200 it feels like made of a lot cheaper plastic
and doesn't look that good in general. didn't bother opening them yet
to see if there's any difference inside..

well then, let's see if i can get a multi-temp-sensor-setup running..

cheers,
markus.

cheered too soon i'm afraid.

seems i had old wfrog-data on that box i tested on and silly me didn't
realize i actually looked at that and not at freshly generated one.
digging further now while trying to get mysql-storage running i found
that i'm getting this in the log:

2012-04-01 14:08:13,498 ERROR [station.wmrs200] Exception reading
interrupt: could not claim interface 0: Device or resource busy
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/wfrog/wfdriver/station/wmrs200.py", line 168, in _run
raise e
USBError: could not claim interface 0: Device or resource busy

wiped and reinstalled everything multiple times yet, but no change.
guess that's over my head.

fwiw - lsusb gives:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0fde:ca01
from what i found it's the same ID as the wmrs200.

i would happily provide ssh-access to a box hooked up to the WMR180 if
anyone able would be willing to work on that.

thanks,
markus.

Hi Markus,

If the USB ids are the same I'd say that the protocol is also the same. This looks like some problem with the linux box. I think there are other older postings relating this type of problems.

well, i considered that as well - but then i took this very same box
to my wmrs200 (which is in a remote location), hooked it up - and
everything worked fine.. strange, isn't?

i hope i'll get to playing with it on another/freshly set up box the
coming week..

markus.

just happened to remember that there's a windows-version of wfrog.. so
i hooked the WMR180 up to my win7 workstation and tried that. result:

2012-04-01 23:54:17,168 ERROR [station.wmrs200] WMRS200 exception: USB
WMRS200 not found (0FDE CA01)

Traceback (most recent call last):

File "wfdriver\station\wmrs200.pyc", line 102, in run
Exception: USB WMRS200 not found (0FDE CA01)

would i have to install any drivers? but i can't find any on the disk
that came with it (might it be bundled with the software-installer?)..

what struck me is that windows recognizes the receiver as an HID..
this i had also seen on debian this morning, there was some /dev/hid*
created after connecting.. never checked though if the wmrs200 is
working differently, i would have expected them to create a
com-port/tty ..

markus.

I'm not an expert on usb and hid drivers. It is surprising that the same box behaves different with WMR180 than WMRS200 if they have the same USB ID.

afraid i gotta start to consider that this thing is damaged.. just
tried the bundled software on my windows workstation and it doesn't
get to detect any sensors either :(

so let's see what oregon scientific's support is worth..

Hello Markus,

Do you have some news regarding your issue ?

I have offered a WMR80 (no USB :(  ) to a friend, and I was considering a WMR180 spare part hub to add USB connexion to this setup.

I would love to know if it is WMRS200 compatible, so I can use same setup I have on my own (on my side I have a WMRS200 with Wview).

Best regards,
moi

unfortunately not. as mentioned my device didn't work on a windows box
with the delivered software either, so i gotta assume it's been a
death on arrival. since i bought from oregon.uk and they officially
don't ship outside the UK they wouldn't offer support or warranty to
me (living in austria) either.. so i gave up on it and am just using
the display for sensors that are linked to a wmrs200 for computer
connection..

from what i read it *should* work with the wmr(s)200 drivers, assuming
one gets a working device :-/ .. if you get one, maybe *first* test it
on a windows box with the delivered software to verify if it's really
working. i doubt that the connection to my debian box is to blame for
the fault - but who knows..

bonne chance,
markus.

I'm using a wmr180 without problem, sometimes only need to restart
wflogger because (apparently) the usb2serial converter is unable to
connect to the wmri180 station.
