1) New Battalion Chief Vehicles:
During June the Division took delivery of 2 new Chevy Tahoes. The
vehicles are used daily by our 40 hour administrative Chief as well as
the on-duty Battalion Chief. These new vehicles replaced 2 older
units from 1992 that had combined mileage of 150,000 miles.

1) Hydrants:
During the Month of May crews spent a great deal of time checking all
public hydrants in our running district. Spring checks include
flushing each hydrant and making certain it is functioning to it's
peak ability. The flushing portion of these checks results in rusty
water for several areas of our community. We regret this

1) Snowfall
On March 7-8th Central Ohio suffered significant snowfall, cold temps,
and dangerous travel conditions. During this storm we staffed an
additional crew on station to assist with normal day to day
operations. Simple EMS responses normally requiring one crew were
augmented with an additional crew to help with clearing walks, drives,

1) Is It Spring Yet?
February saw several snow storms and Central Ohio's typical
temperature fluctuations. Several of these storms hit during peak
travel times, resulting in higher than usual run volume for our
station. It's not uncommon during bad weather for crews to respond to
6-9 incidents during a 4-6 hour window. If you need to travel during

NEW HAZ-MAT VEHICLE GOES IN SERVICE
After finishing installation of radios and computers on this vehicle,

1) 2007 Fire Run Activity
During 2007 our fire companies responded to over 2500 calls for fires,
rescues and other assistance. Our average response time for all fire
company responses, including those outside Worthington, was 6
minutes. Of these responses, 55 were structure fires. Approximately

Open House
We want to thank everyone who attended out Open House on October 7th.
Due to budget constraints, we intentionally trimmed the event down
with shorter hours and fewer displays and demonstrations. We plan to
continue Open House in coming years and hope everyone will continue to
stop by to see our equipment and meet and talk with our staff.

1) County-Wide Drill
On September 6th a county-wide disaster drill was conducted by the
Frankin County Emergency Management Agency. The drill was designed to
assess Central Ohio's strengths and weaknesses in the event of a large
scale disaster. For Worthington's portion of the drill a toxic
chemical was released inside an occupied school. The drill allowed

During the past month....
1) VEHICLE ACCIDENT
Our ER101 was involved in a vehicle accident. This accident occurred
in the same location (161 just E of Proprietors) where M102 had an
accident in April. Both accidents were the fault of other driver's
failing to yield to an emergency vehicle. We will be exploring the

1) Apparatus
During the past month our maintenance garage has been busy updating
the radios in several pieces of our equipment. The newer radios will
replace several reaching the end of their service life. The newer
units also have newer technologies allowing more flexibility and

1) HOSE TESTING
Much of June was spent testing hose. Every Year our crews test every
piece of hose carried on apparatus or in reserve here on the station.
The testing involves filling the hose with water and pressurizing it
to a set level above normal operating pressures. This pressure is

FireFighter of the Year:
Jim Meige was named 2007 FireFighter of the year by the Worthington
VFW. Jim was nominated by his co-workers for his diligence in
mentoring new members of the Department. The award was given the
evening of May 17th, in a short ceremony at the VFW on Morning St.
