May 2008 News for Worthington Fire and EMS

1)  Hydrant flushing began the last week of April and will continue on
most weekdays through most of May.  Detailed schedules by street and
by date can be found at:  http://wfd101.com/newsbin/hydrants08.html

2)  Training for the next Worthington Citizen Action Team (WCAT)
began  during the past month.  Volunteers in this group undergo
several months of training to familiarize themselves with our
emergency operations.  The purpose is to prepare these volunteers so
that they may assist our department at large scale operations
(planned), or in times when our resources may be outstripped
(unplanned local disasters).

3)  On the afternoon of 04-10-08 the local landmark and eatery "Stan's
Restaurant" burned.  Worthington Fire crews assisted Columbus fire on
this fire.  Pictures can be found on the main page of our site or on
our "photos" page.

4)  On 04-25-08 Worthington crews participated in a mock car crash at
Worthington Kilbourne High School.  The drill was scheduled to teach
students the hazards of drinking and driving, and to help them
understand their responsibility behind the wheel of a moving auto.
Students observed several students extricated from 2 vehicles, EMS
crews treating the injured, and a landing by Life Flight.  The event
was ended with an assembly discussing the days events.

5)  Our old Engine / Pumper went on the auction block during April.
The vehicle is no longer needed as a reserve after placing a new
Engine / Rescue in service over 1 year ago.  1 bidder met the reserve
price.
