Subject: Article regarding proposed new definition of Autsim

The following is an article written by Westborough SEPAC member Ilyse
Levine-Kanji about a proposed new definition of autism.  The article has
been published in CommonHealth, a National Public Radio/WBUR blog.   The
article was written in response to the American Psychiatric Association's
possible decision to re-define "autism" in the upcoming DSM V.  Dr. Volkmar
of Yale published a study last week warning that the proposed new definition
would exclude 55% of the people who are currently diagnosed with an autism
spectrum disorder, including approximately 25% of individuals currently
diagnosed with classical autism, 75% with asperger's syndrome and 85%
diagnosed with PDD-NOS (pervasive developmental delay, not otherwise
specified).
