I'm transitioning off of my old Texas Weather station to a Davis Vantage Pro2 and from weewx 4.10 to 5.1 along with Belchertown 1.2 to 1.3. The "old" setup ploted the wind dir using actual degrees; the new setup has the dir points "rounded" to one of the 16 compass points. I'd like to make my new setup use degrees in the plot. I can code python but I'm unclear on where to look (belchertown.py? vantage.py?) for changes to make! I believe the Vantage Pro2 does report wind dir in degrees, at least that's what I see in the loop packets from mqtt. Would really appreciate a push in the right direction or appropriate RTFM.

The first pic is the old plot, the second pic is how they look in the new sw...

I would compare your skin.conf files and the Belchertown sections of weewx.conf, but Pat has a big set of docs online that you should read.  See https://github.com/poblabs/weewx-belchertown/wiki/Belchertown-Charts-Documentation#wind-graph-with-scatter-area-and-line-plots as one example

So changing the "record_generation" setting under the [StdArchive] stanza in weewx.conf from "hardware" to "software" gave me the degree resolution I was looking for. But if I understand the paragraph in the documentation talking about this, I just gave up downloading archive records from my Davis Envoy. So let me rephrase my original question. How may I continue using hardware record_generation and also get degree resolution in the archive record? Do Davis archive records lack the degree resolution that exists in their loop packets? I'm still learning the nuances of Davis-land. Since changing from hardware to software record generation, I've lost the "Signal Quality" value that used to appear in the Seasons skin. Time to re-read the Davis protocol manual to see if the answer is in there...

Again - please compare your previously working correctly in your eyes weewx.conf and skin.conf to what you have now.  Make sure there are no differences.  You might also check graphs.conf in the Belchertown skin.  Eliminate any previous hand-edits from the possibilities.  Change one thing at a time.

FWIW my vp2 graph looks like the 'old plot' in your original post.  I didn't change anything I can recall from the defaults re: wind.

Davis archive records lack the degree resolution.  The Davis archive wind direction is the prevaling/dominant wind observed during the archive interval, and coded as follows :  0 = N,, 1 = NNE, 2 = NE, … 14 = NW, 15 = NNW, 255 =Dashed.

See  the format of the archive records in https://support.davisinstruments.com/article/rbzgl0rh6k-vantage-pro-pro-2-and-vue-communications-reference-2-6-1-any-os

Bingo, I missed that on my first reading. Thank you!
