Hello Kai,
You've developed a really great and secure distro. Thank you for all
your effort!
I volunteer to manage two free public Internet access machines running
Webconverger. Users have commented for several months about an issue
with Hotmail. As I didn't have a Hotmail account to test with (now I
do) I've only recently been able to confirm the issue exists.
As "
dg2...@gmail.com" commented, Hotmail doesn't work properly with
Webconverger v4.3 and v4.2
I can confirm Hotmail also doesn't work with Webconverger v4.4, and
v4.1_mini.
I've tested these versions on a Compaq EVO D500 SFF 1.8GHz P4 with
628Mb RAM (same as the public access machines).
To determine if my hardware was an issue, I first tried using Hotmail
in the following 3 scenarios:
~ Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) GNOME 2.24.1 -- Firefox v3.0.8
~ Windows XP SP3 -- Firefox v2.0.0.20
~ Windows XP SP3 -- Internet Explorer v7.0.5730.13
Hotmail worked properly.
Then I tried Webconverger v4.4 and v4.1_mini on the same hardware.
Hotmail would not function properly.
I then ran the Webconverger versions on an HP Compaq NX6110 laptop,
just to check -- same Hotmail issues again.
My tests consisted of sending messages to and from my Hotmail and
Gmail accounts, to both accounts, for all of the scenarios listed
above. The only messages received were from the non-Webconverger
applications.
Using Webconverger, regardless of which format was used (Plain text,
RTF or HTML), the email's message pane text appears until the message
is sent, then doesn't even appear again in Hotmail's Sent mailbox. The
recipient receives the message body without any text. Only the Subject
line is received.
It seems as if Hotmail never ever receives any of the text typed into
the message pane of the Hotmail webpage.
The sender is probably not aware of this until a recipient mentions
it.
On any of of the above scenarios, and with any equipment, Gmail and
Yahoo Mail all work perfectly, and I've heard no complaints about any
other Webmail services not working. It's just Hotmail, and
unfortunately lots of people use it.
I'm mystified by the problem, and sure hope someone can shed some
light on it.
Thanks Kai.
Regards,
