Hi guys,

I'm considering adding Google talkplugin into Webconverger.
https://github.com/Webconverger/webc/tree/google-talkplugin
https://github.com/Webconverger/webc/issues/80

Firstly this is non-free software, which is not cool. It wouldn't be
the only non-free piece of software. Flash is non-free (vainly hoping
it will go for years now) and non-free drivers.

Although I like to position Webconverger as a "Google-free"
alternative to say Chrome OS, I must say I do find the Google talk /
hangout almost better than Skype nowadays, to chat with friends &
family.

WebRTC is on the horizon, so perhaps adding the Google talkplugin
would be foolish. As even if WebRTC works wonderfully (probably at
least 1 year away), surely there will be angry Google talk dependent
users, if I decide to remove Google's proprietary binary blobs.

Anyway, I thought I'd try solicit your opinions. Many thanks,

Hi Kai,

Yes ,I would very much appreciate it if you did. Like you I use Gtalk and voice & video plugins
95 % of the time and prefer it over Skype.
Was wondering when you were getting around to it :)

Pete.

Just an update: Yesterday Google gave permission for Webconverger to
include their proprietary Google talk plugin binaries, however I'm
still in two minds about it.

I really need to see more demand for it to include it.

I eventually want to see Webconverger completely free of binary blobs
like Flash (and Google talk plugin which would be an interim thing
until WebRTC comes along).
