Please try debug it by editing out nosudo and splash options from the cmdline.
Test with the latest Webconverger; http://build.webconverger.org/

And finally I will probably disable HD install as I've found it too
flaky/complex and I can't maintain it as I don't know my way around
the debian-installer. Please instead just "install" Webconverger to a
USB stick and use that approach instead.

Hello,

thank you for the answer.

I have to install it on HD, as I have to create a kiosk to be put in
our stand.

There are other ways to install it?

Thank You,
neolinux

ps: sorry for my bad english

You could try dd the .img to the hard drive. I have not tried this myself. :)

But seriously, many customers just use a cheap USB stick in their
kiosk stand. You do not need a hard drive.

There is another way. I had the same problem, which is now resolved.
You can extracted the iso file to a partition. After doing that you
can boot from that partition by appropriate setting in grub
bootloader.
Good luck!

I have tried dd-ing the .img to the hard drive. It works and it's much
easier than extracting the image from the ISO I imagine.

Nonetheless, could you please detail your steps to install from ISO?

Kind regards,

Surprisingly, my attempt to "dd" the .img did not seem to lead very
far, therefore I quickly dismissed the matter (maybe even too
quickly!).

Anyway, about your question on ISO installation:
working under Windows, I created a 350 MB primary partition, formatted
it FAT32, and then extracted the full .iso contents by means of
'PowerISO' commercial software. I then edited the GRUB menu.lst,
adding necessary entries pointing to the partition in question,
kernel, initrd etc.
To avoid misunderstandings: the machine on which I did this had dual
boot (Windows XP/Puppy 4.3.1, and GRUB was already installed on MBR).
The menu.lst in question was the one under Puppy (/boot/grub).
I do not know if I said enough. Also, I have to apologize for perhaps
not being able to use the right terminology: I am not quite a computer
guru, but recently I just started liking to make experiments.
Sincerely.

I have to apologize, I made some mistakes in describing the process in
my previous message:

I did NOT extract the iso to a FAT32 partition. The partition for
webconverger (350 MB) was Ext3.
Obviously, that partition was not visisble under Windows, therefore I
extracted the iso file (using PowerISO) into a folder in Windows XP
(NTFS); I re-booted the computer and I used Puppy ROX file manager to
copy the content of the Windows folder into the Ext3 partition for
Webconverger. Then I edited GRUB menu.lst as I described.
I just add that I successfully replicate the procedure for
Webconverger 5.7 too.
Sorry for previous inaccuracies.

Cheers.
