If somebody wanted to distribute this product on a mass scale wouldn't
there be issues with the non-free stuff like the flash plugin and
maybe others we don't know about!

Ultimately you need to make that decision yourself. The opensource
licenses are in the sources.

Webconverger has a distributor agreement with Adobe systems for Flash.
Flash AFAIK is the only non-free software contained in Webconverger.

I hope to drop Flash once HTML5 video becomes widespread and make
Webconverger the open free computing platform for all. :)

Not to be a pessimist (actually I like flash, so I don't see this as a
negative), but I'd be astonished if flash ever gave way to anything,
even a little bit. Microsoft tried with Silverlight ... and a number
of other contenders have tried to compete with Flash, with <i>no</i>
effect.

Adobe is billion pound behemoth with unprecedented platform
independent market penetration (far greater than even Microsoft) and
maturity and quality of their development tools that's so far beyond
anything else today that it's hard to even conceive of it giving way.

They don't give their development tools away.

Webconverger is doing Adobe a favour WRT distribution of the
proprietary client and its in their best interests to bribe me to keep
it in before I unleash HTML5 enabled Firefox builds. ;)

No, not "give it away" ... "give way". I don't see Flash ever "giving
way" to another vector graphics technology, be it Silverlight, HTML5,
some Apple or Google created thing (like CSS animation), an OpenSource
thing (like SVG Animation), etc.

I'm just saying "Follow the money". If there's a billion pound
behemoth like Adobe around that wants to continue eating, he's going
to make sure his food supply chain stays in place. Good old
Macromedia's Rob Burgess has been called the most paranoid CEO in the
world with good reason so they made Flash the most pervasive vector
technology in the world.

Besides, web developers are lazy. I for one won't be converting any
of my flash/flex content to HTML5 until I absolutely have to, and I
won't be switching from Flash or Flex development to anything else
until it saves me time, money, and provides just as much power and
flexibility.
;)

...especially with all the money I've already spent on their
development tools ... I've got to make good use of them for many years
to come just to justify the expense. I suspect I'm not alone there.

... I cannot find any information about the licenses for the stuff
written by Webconverger / Kai Hendry. No readme.txt, license.txt,
gpl.txt or comment in the source of webconverger-base, iceweasel-
webconverger or build. Maybe it should be added to the to do list?

Look for debian/copyright in my packages.

I think the build config doesn't have a explicit license, I'll fix
that to Apache2 or something when I get some time to think about it.
