Today I needed a bit distraction from my work. So I did this:
My jailbrekaed iphone has Cydia (Package Manager) installed. So I
installed python and lynx (console-based webbrowser) with it. On the
termin of my iphone, I navigated tot he web2py page and downloaded
web2py.
After that I unzipped it and started it with:
python web2py.py
and it worked!

I don't know what to like more: web2py to be satisfied with just
python and provinding webserive with sqlite db or the iphone, capable
of running a python application.

When I walk around now, I have a running instance of web2py in my
pocket. With my applications on it.

I have to admit, I'm not a Apple fanboy (altough I think that OS X is
the best Gui available on any unix-derivate), but the iphone is really
my favourite eletronic device. It's a Unix in your pocket. So amazing.

Cheers
Andre

Anyone have a Nokia Series 60 phone?

Running "straight" Python on mobile is nice - but having bindings to
access things like camera, gps, motion sensors is REALLY cool
(see http://www.mobilenin.com/pys60/menu.htm) --- I'm wondering if
web2py will run on Symbian the same way (I think it would)...

Is this something new ? If it's is still the 'old' Nokia python fork
which is python 2.2 or 2.3 based, tough luck... web2py requires 2.5, I
think.

It's cool...
it could support multi-tasking and MMS at least. There have been
complaints on the bluetooth and camera. It doesn't feature a card
reader which would make it much better...
I still love it as a device but these things and others make me
consider it too expensive...

I have run an earlier version on the windows CE and there was a
problem with file locking there. I think I have fixed it but I have
not tried it yet.

I do it with my Nokia internet tablet (N810) all the time :-)

Hey, I have a N810, too, but I thought people take it for granted that
everything runs on it (it is a full-blown linux, after all). We could
do a promo video where we install a stock web2py on a N810 and then
develop/use a web2py app through it's own firefox (take THAT,
iPhone ! :). The question was however for Symbian which is a
different story, as it's AFAIK stuck with an ancient version of a
python fork (correct me if this has changed).

I'd love to see this promo video.

I think we also need a couple of these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQbuyKUaKFo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5EIrSM8dCA

Here is a script. Too bad I do not have actors:

Woman ~25, good looking, in a suit) [looking at the camera] Hello I
am web2py

Boy ~ 18 and nerdy) [has a Thomas train in his hands and looks at it]
Hello I am ruby on rails

Woman) So I see you like trains

Boy) [there is a dawer behind him like in http://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=p5EIrSM8dCA] Yes I do

Woman) [peeking at the drawer] And what's all that stuff you carry
with you?

Boy) They are called my models, my view and my controllers. That's
how I keep my things organized.

Woman) [looking at the camera] I see... I have them too.

Boy) [looking confised at her] I do not see them. Where?

Woman) They are on the web so that I do not need to carry anything
with me. I am the only framework that does development, debugging,
testing, deplyment and maintenance via a web interface. Although I do
keep a backup in my purse.

Boy) [defying tone] So you are more user friendly then me! So what?

Woman) Well, actually also I am enterprise ready, can easily hanlde
very large files as well as all kinds of network protocols. I am
faster then you and I am free....

[pause... the she looks at him and say] So, what shall we do?

Adult female voice calls from the back) Rails, what are doing? I told
yout not do not talk to strangers!
