Good evening everyone,

Adam Karsin, KG4WWH here, I just located this group and joined up tonight. I am located in Clearwater and have an IC-91AD. I have just started to get used to the DSTAR, but still have a lot of questions. I do not know if K4ACB, Cameron is a member of this group, but he has been very helpful in getting me going.

Here are a couple of questions:

If a repeater owner has both a UHF and a VHF or more than one of either (ex. NI4M) what is the proper way to program this? Are there certain paramaters that I need to program to differentiate the repeaters?

As for gateways, in order to use the repeater and talk elsewhere do I need the gateway information for that repeater or just the “home” repeater?

And lastly (for now!) the “home” repeater, I know that in the UR RPT1 RPT2 MYCALL area, I would put for example “cqcqcq ni4ce  c ni4ce  g kg4wwh”  so now lets say I travel to Atlanta. Would I keep the ni4ce information or would I change to the local repeater? With that said, if I change off of ni4ce to lets say kj4arb do I need to change the gateway information?

And finally back to the first question, how do I know which machine is the gateway or does it matter.

Thanks for all the help!!

Adam

Good evening everyone,

Adam Karsin, KG4WWH here, I just located this group and
joined up tonight. I am located in Clearwater and have an IC-91AD. I
have just started to get used to the DSTAR, but still have a lot of
questions. I do not know if K4ACB, Cameron is a member of this group,
but he has been very helpful in getting me going.

Here are a couple of questions:

If a repeater owner has both a UHF and a VHF or more than one of either
(ex. NI4M) what is the proper way to program this? Are there certain

parameters that I need to program to differentiate the repeaters?

> Yes.

As for gateways, in order to use the repeater and talk elsewhere do I
need the gateway information for that repeater or just the "home"
repeater?

> yes, to help you better understand the programming,
go to www.dstarinfo.com from there click on the link
for the dstar calculator. This will aid you with setting
up your radio settings.

And lastly (for now!) the "home" repeater, I know that in the UR RPT1
RPT2 MYCALL area, I would put for example "cqcqcq ni4ce c ni4ce g
kg4wwh" so now lets say I travel to Atlanta. Would I keep the ni4ce
information or would I change to the local repeater? With that said, if
I change off of ni4ce to lets say kj4arb do I need to change the gateway
information?

> The repeater you use the most, you could call home.
When switching to other repeaters, have your memory channel set
to that repeater system with the port, and gateway.
*Understand, you can also set your radio to talk on just
the repeater and not the gateway, but common practice
to allow dongle users to hear your or your information
to pass onto the network (when a site is linked to a reflector
or to another system via dplus, you want to have RPT 2 set to
that gateway).

And finally back to the first question, how do I know which machine is
the gateway or does it matter.

>MOST of the systems, MOST THAT IS, are part of the DSTAR Network, and
have a gateway. You can, in some cases, issue an INFO request with
your radio. Set the URCALL to <rptr call and the 8th character to I>
i.e. URCALL KJ4ACN I, KJ4ACN <a,b, or c> and RPT 2 KJ4ACN G, you
will get an information playback broadcasted to you.

>As for NI4CE, BYI, or ARB, I am working with the owners to have
that file made up. Being part of the Florida D-Star Support Team,
we are working to maintain a unified network through out the state.

>I will check with KI4SWY on NI4CE and KJ4BYI if they have an info
file on or not... But you can test it with KJ4ACN any time.

>side note: Those of us who have Dplus installed, you can also
do an ECHO TEST using <repeater call> and E as the 8th letter.
This will allow you to do up to a 30 second voice test for playback.

>I am working on KJ4ARB as I am typing this, but you can go to any
one of these systems for more information.

NI4CE http://dstar.ni4ce.org
KJ4BYI www.kj4byi.org
KJ4ARB link not known, but will be out soon
KJ4ACN http://dstargw.kd4efm.org
K1XC Orlando http://dstargw.oarc.org
W4BUG Ft. Lauderdale www.w4bug.net
W4AES AES ORL, not set up for public access at the moment.
K4WAK Tallahassee, Working on that, but not up at this time.

>I do know that there are several systems that are STAND-ALONE
and are not part of the International Dstar Network.
One of those in this area would be W4CLL in Plant City.
I do know his B port is on 442.025, since I can no longer
use it to talk to AES port B, which is also 442.025.
I get both systems keying up at the same time when ever
I try to talk on AES, I also go out over W4CLL... another story.

Thanks for all the help!!
