How does the UE calculate SFN?

The UE uses P-SCH and S-SCH to know the slot boundary, frame bounday
and the scrambling code group of a cell. By trying out, different
scrambling codes in that group, it is able to find the scrambling code
to listen to CPICH as well as PCCPCH. Now on PCCPCH, the MIB is sent
every 8 frames. So the UE knows when SFN mod 8 is 0, there is a MIB

 Hi all,
This is a query regarding the MIMO transmission in WCDMA downlink. The
release 6 standard has transmit diversity scheme on the downlink. i.e two
antenna at base-station. In that scenario. Does the BS indicate the presence
of STTD transmission to all the users ?? Because there is a kind of
interference which the SISO users will face.

 Hi :
1) What exactly is scrambling in UMTS. I understand by chanelization,
but what is scramling??
for ex:
if 10101011 is my bit after chanelization, and 11001100 is my
scrambling code,
what might happen to my spread code( 10101011) after scrambling.
Is scramling some kind of code that I insert as header before my

 Hi Guys:
I'm very new to Telecommunication. I have a very basic query.
I had assumed that higher the frequency of a electromagnetic wave,
higher the data carrying capacity.
But, GSM operates at 890Mhz, but the data rate depends on the
bandwidth around tha carrier, which is 200Khz. I don't understand what

What makes the difference ..., both are frequency domain based
methods. If you are building one over existing N/W's, that will be
MC-CDMA or if you build one from scratch, you'll make a lesser complex
OFDMA. So what is interesting in that ???

 Hi everybody,
We have many members in the group now, we shall start interacting
now..!!!
Let me start the topic?
What do you think, whether OFDM(A) or CDMA (MC-CDMA) will prove to be
the future wireless technique.
In case of members new to OFDM - (OFDMA), we can start one more thread
on it..
Regards,

I was under the impression that 4g Wireless was still in the
theoretical stages??

I mean, obviously there will be new designs and improvements that will
go beyond 3g but every market I know that is deplying UMTS this year
(Cingular) is only deploying one T1 per sector at best... So even if
your RAN, Node B's and switching are up for doesn't mean that they've
