Talimena Trip Update: May 16-18th

All,
 
It is now less than 3 weeks until our trip to Okla/Ark to cycle the Talimena
Scenic Drive.  I just wanted to update things and start some logistics.
 
Riders (8) :  Greg, Craig,  Matt,  Jesse,  Bill W., Steve S., Mike L., and Jackie.
----  There is still time and room for others to join us.
Mike K. mentioned that he would be unable to go due to work/travel
  (is this still the case Mike ?).
 
We have 3 rooms reserved (Thursday thru Saturday nights):
    Mike L. has reserved  2 rooms w/ 2 double beds; Matt has one room with a single bed.
    This will fit 6 people comfortably, but we can squeeze another into each room if needed.
    I haven't heard, but Jackie was considering another room and hoping another woman
    would come along ?
 
Carpooling:
    Greg and Bill are driving up together, leaving fairly late Thursday (5PM?).
        Do you have room for another rider ?
    Mike and Jesse are leaving early afternoon (1-2 PM). We have room for one more
        and probably an extra bike.
    Anyone else interested in driving ?  Perhaps at a time between these two ?

Actually, I have booked a 4th room (single king sized bed).

Bill and my likely departure time is around 6 as I have a work
obligation downtown that ends at 5.

I should have rememebered that.

 

We need to make sure that Matt, Steve, Jackie and Craig get in a carpool.

Craig has mentioned that he should be able to leave at 1-2 PM and could ride

with Jesse and I.  Can either Matt, Steve or Jackie drive ?

I will be driving, but I just have 2 problems. First, my departure
time is not settled due to some issues at work. I will be leaving
Thurs just don't know exactly when. Secondly, I have to drive my car
instead of the van (wife and kids need it) and it barely fits my bike
(I'm ashamed to say I don't have a bike rack). Thus, I can easily
provide a ride for someone if needed, I just can't fit the extra
bike(s).

Would there be way for you 2 to get together and carpool ?

Or maybe we can get both of you into the 2 existing cars ?

 

Also, Ken and Kristen have decided to also join us.

They will be leaving at about noon on Thursday. They reserved

their own room.

 

Jackie, have a nice time in Washington.  I'm jealous.

The return to Houston in August will be quite a shock.

I can't go earlier.  Greg....I'll bring the Starbucks and car pool with you, if that's ok....as long as Mike, et. al don't plan a 6 am start on Friday!

Steve,

Bill and I are riding together.....I think the plan was for Bill to
drive using his quad cab pick-up....but we haven't talked about it for
a while. At limit I can grab my wife's MDX and can take 2 bikes on
the hitch rack and another (maybe 2 in the back if we pull seats off,
maybe rear wheels) in the back and 4 people. So one way or another,
think we can get you on board!

Again, looking like 6pm depart on Ths the 15th ...which means an after
midnight arrival time.

I plan to be home about noon Thursday 05/15 to get ready for the trip.
I can drive and be at your house at 5:00ish, Greg let me know what you
would like to do as far as driving and times. I do have room for 2
more if anyone is interested.
