Greg,

Here is a suggestion for Saturday.  It is roads we have all done before with slight changes to make the ride a little different.

I like it. Was thinking of something similar.

Stops at Whitehall and new Shell (Taco Corner) on 1097

OK,

Here's the "plan" for Sat:

Start: Exxon - Woodlands Pkwy/2978
Time: 6:45am meet, 7:00am start
Distance: 89-90 miles
Route description: 2978 S. then west on Hardin Store, Stagecoach,
Joseph to 362 then 105 to 2445/1774 (Stoneham) to Montgomery (Lone
Star Pkwy), 105 to McCaleb then Fishcreek back to Exxon
Stops: 2 (Whitehall and Shell-Taco Corner on 1097, near Lone Star
Pkwy in Montgomery)

Same stops I was thinking to do. Also can stop on 105 if anyone needs a
third stop

I plan to ride Saturday also.

Note, that we are not mapped to ride up to 1097 & taco corner, our second planned stop?
There are other possible stops along 105, but most are on the other (north) side of the highway.

Also, it's best we avoid McCaleb. It's narrow 2 lane (no shoulder) with lots of traffic.
Best to cut south on either Pine Lake or Navajo from 105, to Rabon Chapel and then Capital Hill.

OK,

I miss read Greg's reply.  Plan is first stop in White Hall.  Second stop is Dobbin.  Route is laid out to go down MT Mariah and take 1486 back to Dobbin.  From there take the back roads back to 105.  Instead of turning right to go to Spring Branch we go straight back to 105.  From there we go to Lone Star parkway

Mike,

As we are passing by on Lone Star Pkwy, thought easy enough to jump
over to Taco Corner.

Agree on Pine Lake/Navajo to Rabon Chapel to Capital Hill reroute.

My status has changed and I will be riding Saturday...or at least
until I have been dropped off the back, <grin>

I would like to mention one thing, that we push the start to 7:15AM vs
7:00AM...looked plenty dark this morning with overcast skies...just a
thought.

OK by me. 7am meet...7:15am start at Exxon

Based on current forecast roads might be wet/damp...but mild temps!

I second Bill's request to push back the start time tomorrow to 7:15. Those of us who can ride from home to the start will be safer with some daylight.

All,

Nice ride today guys. Started with 7 (Jim Mc, Jesse, Mike L, Mark C,
JJ and Bill W)....weather turned out nice...slightly damp at start
(was raining in place driving to the Exxon). Good run heading west
and up to Whitehall (by the way 362 from 1488 to Grimes County is
really showing its age...very rough. The Grimes Co stretch was smooth
by comparison...a first for good old Grims Co!). We "lost" Jim at
Whitehall to two broken spokes....his wife was kind enough to come get
him from Kingwood and when I spoke to him around 1:30 he was just
pulling into his driveway. The remaining band of 6 then finished 362,
took 105 east and did the 2455/1774 loop back to Plantersville. The
105 to Mt Mariah where we ran into another WCC ride (Fast
Intermediate?). Bounced around 105 and Lone Star Pkwy to stop to at
Taco Corner. Then 105 to Pine Lake, Rabon Chapel, Capital Hill and
back via Fishcreek. Fishcreek was a highlight for me as we were
topping out in the low/mid 30s with the tailwind!

Finished with just under 90 mi and just under 20 mph ave (some
others..JJ, Jesse, Mark...Mike even might of ended up with slightly
higher aves......great riding guys! Don't recall any near misses or
car issues.
