All,

OK, forecast is shaping up for a pretty nice weekend this Sat.

Any route preferences?

Could consider doing the Lake Livingston loop if folks don't mind the
drive to Coldspring to start.....

But am open to other suggestions.

Off the bike AGAIN this weekend. I would much rather me helping to move an apartment!

I have interest in this ride...but concerned I would slow your ride
down.
Will decide Friday if I'm going.

Bill - please come!!!!

Let's target meeting at the San Jacinto County Courthouse (east side)
in Coldspring around 6:45am and plan to depart just after sunrise (set
for 7:05).

Here's the route:

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/14050196

As usual, stops in Onalaska and Riverside

Weather forecast is for temps in the mid 40s in early AM then sun and
warming up to upper 50s during the day. 5-10 mph winds from the N/NE.

One of our favorites!!

So far it's Jim, Mike L, Bill and myself. Anyone else interested?

Five hale and hardy souls showed up in Coldsprings this early AM. Temp
was hovering at 35 and a very brisk 10-15 mph wind from the North was
blowing (brrr!). No matter...off went Jesse, Mike L, Jim Mc, Bill W
and myself at 7:20am, after Craig texted he wasn't able to make it
(you better have a good reason!!!!).

The wind made the ride pretty challenging as we were trying to warm-up
but all the warmth generated was blown away!!! We finally got some
tempo/organization going around the dam (lots of water flowing!) and
made it into Stop 1 (mi 36) in Onalaska in two groups. Jesse and Bill
needed to get back so they cut short by going across the 190 causeway
across the lake (from Bill sounds like it wasn't too bad...Jesse how
did you find it?). Heard they got in 11/11:30 or so respectively with
60s-70s for mileage. Also heard the race team was out on 224...JJ
were you guys doing 224/156 loops?

Mike, Jim and I continued north from Onalaska, fortunately there was
reasonable cover and the wind shifted a bit (from NE vs. N)...the sun
also helped warm things us a bit too. Best part was heading east on
the 7 miles of FM19 between Trinity and Riverside...the tailwind was
great! After a stop for lunch (Subway!) in Riverside (mi 64), we then
headed S on 980 to Pointe Blank. The expected tailwind on this 20 mi
stretch ended up being a mix of helping and hurting crosswinds because
of the shift and the winding nature of 980. We then headed west on
190, turned south to 156 and finished with the beloved climbs up 224.
Everyone was pretty wiped...most of us struggling with the risk of
cramping or just tired legs! We pulled in the San Jacinto Courthouse
in Coldspring just before 2pm (Jesse - your prediction in Onalaska was
almost perfect). Just over 100 miles at around 19mph on-the-bike
average. Pretty good considering we didn't have much real tailwind
but tons of headwind/cross and did the last 63 miles with a relatively
small group (3).

We had 1 flat (Jim got a nail dead center!), no real close calls (our
fellow road users were very considerate except for a couple of
clueless motorcyclists) and seriously fried legs at the end!!!

What an awesome day! Would be a perfect route if they could just
repave the shoulder on the rough 4 mile stretch heading into
Onalaska!!

Greg,

Good report on the ride. Yes my legs were pretty well done in when we got
to 224. Those last two always seem to get me, especially after 96 miles in
the bank. Let me know about next weekend, if you guys go to Austin I may do
the Humble civics ride.

Jim,

Looks like folks are talking about riding in Austin on Sunday 19th.
If anyone is interested, let me know. At the moment it's Mike and Rob
Anderson, Jesse and myself. Sounds like Rob and Mike are going up Sat
eve. I'm planning an early AM drive up Sunday and back that late
afternoon/early evening.

I'm out for Saturday as my kids have a track meet.

Wow what a ride!
The team did go out there for some hill workout. We did the 224/156
loop a couple of times and one hill repeat which was only 40 miles but
the intensity of the attacks plus the wind made it feel like we were
working much harder. We got there at 10AM and left around 12:30PM so
I thought we may run to you guys but we never saw you. I am glad it
was a fun ride maybe I can make it next time. I was way too tired
from convention and since I got in around 10PM Friday night I was not
able to get up early.

Hey give me the 411 about Sunday, I may have the weekend off - or may
be in Austin already for a band competition. I may just have to sneak
my bike with me.

JJ,

Need to sort details on Austing...but likely plan is to meet under the
bridge at Zilker Park in the AM (betw 7 and 7:30). From there need to
figure out how much of the 108 miles we wan to do.....

Mike/Jesse...any other ideas/thoughts?

Greg
