Feedback on your Garmin 800 experience

All,

Am finally thinking of breaking down and buying a Garmin GPS
cyclecomputer. As I want mapping capability, the existing 500 and new
510 are excluded. That brings me to the 800 or new 810. The price
point for a fully loaded 810 w/ bundle is over $600....so am thinking
of the 800 w/ bundle (cadence/HR/speed/mount)....which can be had new
for around $400.

Thinking it will be very helpful this year in on my Alps trip....

I know a bunch of you have one...interested in your views of:

1) Ease of use?
2) Clarity of maps?
3) Do you need to buy extra/more detailed ones to be useful
4) Run time after a charge
5) Computer interface...how well does it work?

I have the 800. It is very good. It provides all the vital information so you may keep up with each ride. The connection to MyGarmin is easy and easy to deal with. The map of the alps is additional charge & can be downloaded at Garmin.com.
I understand the newer Garmins are Bluetooth This is super if you have a iPad/mini
I highly recommend it. Soon you will want a power meter. What ever happened to the idea of power meter pedals?

  I've been using the Garmin 705 for a couple of years and really like it.   It is really great to use with the ridewithgps web membership (easy downloads, route creation, uploads,  history, tracking etc.).  Am looking to move to the 810 for the online tracking feature and improvement in user interface. 

The best deal I have seen for the Garmin 800 is at the link below… $210 after mail in rebate this weekend!   wow.  I have purchased several high $ items from Western Bike Works and have never had an issue with them.  Just wish they had the 810 on special.

You would still need to get the cadence sensor (not required if you have a SRAM - Quarq power meter), heart rate monitor (unless you have one left over from your 705!), and most importantly the Garmin micro SD chip that has the NA maps (sounds like you need the Europe map too).  Shop around online before going for the bundle, I found the SD chip for $60 online.
