Hi,

I'm sending this out to (1) update Fred's still-wonderful WBRU site and (2)
stir up our GoogleGroup a little. What's new with everyone? Here's the news
from atop the Third Watchung Mountain (OK, a glacial escarpment 80 feet
about average terrain, but in this part of NJ, it's a mountain!)...

I'm glad we were there when we were there. It seems in most contemporary
radio that anything more than that-was/this-is gets you in trouble. Very

While not directly WBRU-related, GTM was one of my three greatest radio
gurus. Although the article doesn't note it, he was PD at WHCN (short-term
home of several WBRU alumni in the early '70s) from 1964-1976, and really
inspired the station. He had been ailing for a while, but this is still a
very sad day.

For the record, here’s the NY Times article announcing this today. During
our peak influence, I believe there were perhaps half a dozen WBRU alumni
working there in the late 1940s and 1950s.

By the way, I believe there are now SIX full-time Spanish language stations
in the metro NYC market.
