My friend Paul Sidney, general manager emeritus at WLNG, has died.
It's in this week's Northeast Radio Watch (http://www.fybush.com/NERW/
2009/090406/nerw.html).

At this moment WLNG is receiving one call after another with kind words
about Paul Sidney. Bob Shannon, on the air live at WCBS -FM, called to say
that his show tomorrow will be a tribute to "Mr. Sidney." LNG is unique -
a throwback to when DJs were the "fun guys".

Sad to hear this; Paul Sidney built a remarkable extension of himself at
WLNG, a marvelous anachronism that still sounds locked into the prime Top 40
days of the '50s-'60s, runs a mountain of commercials per break, and still
manages to command listeners. I think the key words here are "community
service"; the station is inextricably linked to the local activities of
eastern Long Island.

Is this something so old that it might become new again elsewhere?
Obviously, it works for WLNG.
