Wish I could be there tomorrow night, but some on this list might live
near Monterey -- the Firesign Theatre ("Anchovies? I spell my name ...
Danger.") is having its 40th anniversary reunion concert at the Golden
State Theatre.

This wouldn't open for me, but I can imagine the fun it will be!

I'll try another version of the link:

That worked - thanks! I feel proud of us at 'BRU for grabbing onto them
early and often; some on this list may not know that the station presented
then live at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium on the Ides of March, 1970.
Opening act: my band, Benefit Street!

Paul Payton '69 (& Bette Schultz '73, (1) who was at the station when it
happened and (2) with whom I'm celebrating our 15th anniversary tomorrow!)

Certainly, Paul, you refer to "The Ideas of March."
Best to keep these memories correct in our fuzzying heads.
I recall the Administration wanting a formal contract and, perhaps because I had a car, I was allowed the privilege of driving to New Haven to collect the performers' signatures. This didn't sit altogether well with them, some guy in a suit (what did I know?) bearing a contract. It certainly helped I had my leggy girlfriend Jessie in tow and shortly they complied (one of them drawing a heart on the signature line). Does that document still reside in the University archives?
Now that you mention it, I remember Benefit Street did open the show. And Paul Gregutt closed the show with a ticket give-away -- a round-trip airfare for "one lucky person" to . . .?? Was it Florida? PG, are you there?

Irv (I'm assuming):

I didn't remember the extra "a," but since A's were elusive in my academic
life, it may have eluded me here as well...

I have a couple of photos from the evening that Beach took - one of Paul
Gregutt looking a little "starry-eyed and laughing" (as The Byrds said), and
one of the embarrassing-to-think-back-on-it WBRU jam band opening for
Benefit Street!

Thanks, Roger! Good to hear from you. Hi from Bette, too. Where are you
these days? What are you up to? Hope all is well with you!

Paul
