Practice Update, Elections Info, and Tournament Recap...

Hey team!
Buckle up for a very long e-mail. It contains all necessary information for elections, so pay close attention if you want to run for a position in Club Tennis.
Just a reminder due to the Women's Varsity match tomorrow, we will not be having practice. We will have regular Sunday and Tuesday practices for the remainder of the semester.
The tentative time for elections is going to be Wednesday, April 25th around 6:30PM. This is subject to change depending on if/when I can get a room. This will be elections and an end of the year pizza party, so everyone should come and chill. For those running for a position, you will get to give a short speech (try to keep it under 1 minute).
If you are planning on running for a position, you must e-mail me which positions you will be running for by Monday, April 23rd at 11:30PM, so everything can be organized for the day of elections. You can run for more than one position; however, in your e-mail please include your preferences in position.
We are looking into changing the constitution for Club Tennis so that we can change the officer positions to better suite our team as it is now. At elections we will have to vote on this change before it can be enacted.
The proposed positions will be:
2 Co-Presidents, 1 Treasurer, 1 Match Play Coordinator, 2 Practice/Player Coordinators, 1 SCB Representative, 1 Webmaster, 1 Community Outreach Chair
Descriptions of the positions follow. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Co-Presidents: These two people will be in charge of the club. They will do all clerical work and oversee all affairs. At tournaments, these two people will serve as captains.
Treasurer: This person along with the co-presidents will make the budgets. Treasurer is responsible for balancing the budget, taking care of reimbursements, and filing check requests. This position is not up for election, Lori will be continuing as treasurer as it is a difficult job to learn.
Match Play Coordinator: This person looks up hotels and things for us to do in the area of the tournaments. He/she can also schedule scrimmages against local teams.
Practice/Player Coordinator: These two people will be in charge of practice. They will make matches and run drills when necessary. They will help out the presidents in selecting teams for tournaments. In addition, these two people can help coordinate social events such as team dinners, parties, IM sports, and intra team tournaments.
SCB Representative: The Sports Club Board (SCB) Representative will attend monthly SCB meetings and will serve as our face in front of the SCB.
Webmaster: This person will be in charge of keeping the googlegroup up to date. In addition, this person can make a website for the team and can help clean up our pages on the SU website and TOC website.
Community Outreach Chair: This person will be in charge of our Flynn Park community service. He/she is encouraged to organize other community service events as well.
If the proposed change does not pass, we will have to vote using the old positions. They are:
1 President, 1 Vice President, 1 Treasurer, 3 Match Play Coordinators, 1 Practice Coordinator, 1 SCB Representative, 1 Webmaster, 1 Community Outreach Coordinator
And finally, a recap from Jeffrey on our team’s victory this past weekend at the Drury Invitational. Congrats guys!!
Hey everyone, Jeff here to give you the recap of Club Tennis' triumphant trip to the Drury Invitational! The team consisted of myself, the freshmen Jonathan and Austin, Med school student Yi, and our graduating senior Katie.
The journey began Friday amidst the torrential downpour that blanketed the state. Luckily, our team was prepared for the trip thanks to Yi's DELECIOUS home-baked cookies, and the knowledge that Katie is a beast at driving stick. Along the way, we stopped at the ever popular Steak & Shake (Austin's first experience at the marvelous establishment), and milkshakes were had by all! The drive continued for many hours after this, but I was knocked out cold for this period of time, so I can only assume they conversed about how awesome I am (I was also told there were also some cool lightning storms to watch). We arrived at the hotel before the night was through, and everyone rested up for the big day that awaited us all.
The following morning, we had a glorious FREE breakfast at the hotel, and us guys watched some awesome Saturday morning cartoons. We then left for the tournament, ready to fulfill our destinies!
The tournament began at 1:00, and everyone was ready to kick some ass (mainly our girls, the MVPs of the day), rain or shine! Our first match was against Missouri State and was a close one! The girls built us a nice lead, but it all came down to the mixed doubles match. Luckily, Jonathan and Katie didn't crack under the pressure, and we gained our first win! Match 2 was against SLU, and was a perfect sweep! Yi as was typical of the day dominated in singles, and Austin held his own with back to back doubles! We all felt pumped going into the third round, facing the only other team that was undefeated, University of Nebraska.
We made our introductions, and discussion was made about just saying we had split the match and both teams being declared the winners (the wind had taken its toll on everyone's patience). Tough and close matches were had by all, and once again it came down to mixed doubles. Our opponents wanted to taste victory so badly, but Katie and I weren't gonna give them the pleasure, and we served our way to victory to become the tournament champions!
After our victory song ("We are the Champions" by Queen), we received our trophy, grabbed as many free goodies as we could fit into our bags, and set off on the long trip back to WashU. Along the way, Austin learned the real meaning of the phrase "mind in the gutter;" I learned what a catheter was, and we made Jonathon pee in a bush to save time (not really, but it was an idea that was tossed around--as was kicking Austin out of the car and making him walk all the way home). We got a little turned around on the way back, but we made it home safe in one piece with great memories from an awesome trip!
Special shout-out to Katie, who lead the team on this tournament and placed one more win under her belt to close out her four years here with WashU Club Tennis. She will be missed greatly!
