Hello, Volleyballers,

I hope that you had a good winter season and that the spring is bringing warm and sunny days to your “neck of the woods”.  I don’t want to send you a multitude of e-mails updating our Events; so, I am going to try and “cover all bases” within this initial e-mail (however, you will receive individual promotions from our lodging partners – please bear with them as they have created special discounts, just for our participants at each Event; and, they are trying to make your life easier.).  I apologize, wholeheartedly, for the length of this correspondence; but, please read through it as there are a few items that are changing within both The MotherLode and the King of the Mountain tourneys:

First off:  it has been quite awhile since we have had a rate increase in either of our Events regarding Team Fees; and, as such, we need to have a small increase in fees in order to keep producing the top quality tournaments that you are used to expecting from us.  The good thing is that we are, now, going to have a lower fee for single-day events as opposed to those who are participating in multi-day events.  All changes are posted in the appropriate spots on each individual tournament’s web site.

Now, the following will designate the changes within each of the Vail and Aspen tournaments:

40th Annual Vail ‘King of the Mountain’ Open

Father’s Day Weekend -- June 15-17, 2012

www.KingOfTheMountainVolleyball.com:

&    The FREE juniors’ clinic will expand its hours this year; from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with check-in at 10:30 a.m.  We want to be able to give more practical training related to the basic fundamental differences between the indoor game and the outdoor beach doubles game; as well as the basic strategies involved in the outdoor game.  There will be a separation of “never/evers” and more experienced players with more attention given to both groups.  Also, we have a cadre of professional beach players who will be assisting “clinic” Director, John Kessel, of USA Volleyball with the camp.

&    All of the Junior’s Events (FREE clinic and Saturday’s competitions) will be held at Ford Park.  Late registrations for Saturday’s divisions can be made there on the day of competition or at the Vail Athletic Field.  Pre-registered teams may check-in, on Friday, at either site.  “Day of…” check-in will take place at Ford Park.

40th Annual MotherLode Volleyball Classic

Labor Day Weekend – August 30-September 3, 2012

www.MotherLodeVolleyball.com:

o       Registration for The MotherLode opens tomorrow, May 1st.

&    We have added two (2) new divisions this year:  Reverse Co-Ed A & B.  These divisions will be played on Friday with the rest of the Co-Ed divisions.  This is in response to requests from various players from different parts of the Country where reverse co-ed is popular.  We are willing to give almost anything a try, once.

&    We are hosting The NVL at The MotherLode, again, this year.  And, we expect another GREAT show to come from our Open divisions.  The Team Fee has increased in order to be on the same line as The NVL; however, there is still “open” registration, through the MotherLode online registration.  The top 16 points-leaders, as of August 1, 2012, will be invited to The ‘Lode w/registration going through The NVL.  The rest of the bracket will be “open” registration through The MotherLode.  As usual, it’s important, for those registering through the “open” registration, to get their entries in early – the deadline for registering for The ‘Lode’s Open divisions is August 1, 2012.  This is being done so that we have time to fill-out the bracket from the NVL qualifiers and to properly “seed” the Tournament.

&    Being the 40th Anniversary of The MotherLode, we will be hosting a reception for all past winners of the open divisions and other “old farts” on Friday night.  Site location TBD.  Also, we are co-opting with the Santa Barbara Masters Tourney to provide complimentary entry to the winners of that tournament’s divisions into the various masters, and seniors, divisions of The MotherLode.  You may register for the Santa Barbara Masters at www.cbva.com.

&    Right now, there are great airfares on Frontier Airlines into Denver.  And, American Airlines is offering direct flights into Aspen from L.A. and Miami.

&    Also, there are good discounts being offered by our “preferred lodging representatives for all participants at The ‘Lode.  Check them out on our web site:  www.MotherLodeVolleyball.com.

There!  That’s it!  Whew!  Thanks for taking the time.  Have a great summer and, hopefully, we’ll see you at one, or both, of our Events this Olympic year.  Go USA.

Sincerely,

Leon Fell
