If you're willing to get to it, there is an incredible expanse of black ice in the middle of Outer Mallets Bay. You'll need to walk (with spikes) from Rosetti Park to the shore which includes a short section of sand. From there, go right along the shore until you get to Marble Island at which point you can head out to the middle of the bay. There is some shell ice and rubble involved but not too much. Going straight ahead from the launch involves much more scrambling and double poling. By the time we left the ice we could feel it getting softer and the south wind was picking up.

And here is one photo from that wide expanse. Easy, following Phyl’s lead, to skate back, even in the stiff head wind. Fingers crossed for resurfacing .
