Apple Island Marina

Skated this morning (7:15am) from the marina to cedar island. still lots of shell ice in the marina ( easily avoidable) with much better conditions after the pressure ridge witch is pretty much flattened completely in many places. plenty of beautiful black ice past the ridge on west side, I didn't go out near the middle. . mostly 8 inches everywhere except along the Sothern shore  of the marina. it starts to thin a little along the current that comes from the bridge. I saw open water there on the drive in. I stayed well to the north west this morning. The ice yachts were just getting there as I was leaving. 

has anyone been from apple island marina to keeler bay? I would love to join anyone planning such a skate but would at least like input from folks with more experience. all of my ice experience has been walk on or drive on following ice fishermen when there was over a foot of ice. I haven't had to watch out for or had any experience with some of the hazards I feel I could encounter.
