Yesterday the Outer Bay of Mallett's Bay was wide open water except for some shore ice around the perimeter of the Bay...See the attached photo.
This evening as the cold front approaches the wind will shift from the South and is forecast to blow from the Southwest at 20 to 30 knots, becoming west. Gusts up to 40 knots.

The prediction is that if this occurs, by tomorrow morning the thin ice of the Inner Bay will all be ice cubes…
And unfortunately the end of a very short 2024 skating season that offered some of the best ice for recreational activities in many years.
Let’s hope that the 2025 season brings similar conditions for a longer period of time.
