> Tell me more!
Well, Mr. Thompson, Ira still hasn't posted yet so I'll give a little
Scythian report. All these times are rounded off:
Friday night/Saturday morning 2:30 a.m. Jeff Poole arrives to find
Matt Wedge, Tina Bell, her boyfriend and me playing spades and drunk
on vodka and decides to join in.
3:30 a.m. James Lin arrives and we get ready to go. I got ready
earlier by preparing a few decks and organizing my shared cards tin,
since I do not have enough to go around ( all the good shit to float
amongst 17 or so decks). So we grab our shit and go, including a
nearly full handle of V.
9:30 a.m. Arrive in Berkeley with a 3rd of the Skyy gone (only Matt
and me, Jeff was 2nd driver) ready to have breakfast and play. And by
'have breakfast' I mean a crepe for Matt and James, whatever Jeff
munched on, and another slug for me.
10:30 a.m. Walk into the gaming store where we will conduct this
nonsense, after a joint is rolled and shared between us all, J and J
sucking in the most. I put my shit down on a table, pull out my deck
boxes and discover that my 'shared tin' didn't make the trip. I have
no complete decks.
11:00 a.m. First tournament starts, 15 players. I have decided to
play the only deck that I don't have to work too hard to put together,
even though I have no inclination to play it (why I still have it with
me? I hate filing my fucking cards). It doesn't need it's other 2
cards anyway. Decide to put a hold on the V intake so we'd have some
for later. Brandon catalogued this better than I remember so there's a
3-2 table win for me. 2nd round also reported well by Brandon, though
I did get Oliver.
Something p.m. Final (started drinking again, bored). Do I need to
restate that Brandon was much better at reporting this than I am? I
win 4-1, yippee! Don't ever want to see this thing at any table:
Deck Name: Trust in the Public
Created By: Robert Scythe
Description: A variation of my Superior Presents deck that just goes
hardcore into its first 2 prey and works on the 3rd for the win. Came
about from a discussion whether just going full head on with
trusts and Life in the City's would be even more effective. They were.
Usually has one Carlton and a Heart of Cheating but apparently were
not necessary. Will never play a deck like this again, very dull and
straightforward.

Lost track of time p.m. Qualifier, 14 or 15 (pretty sure 14 as Ira is
forced to only judge) players. Pulled a deck I might have played
anyway, threw a half dozen cards from the last deck into it since it
shared presence. First round have no idea what happened during the
course, but came out with a 3-2 or a 4-1. Brandon yet again penned the
information needed to give a grasp of round 2. More drinking.
No idea what time, but later p.m. Final. I was first, preying on Andy
Haas (Brandon's cousin) who had a Malk deck. Poole (Who had forgotten
what Andy was playing) was top seed and decided to sit away from me.
This is a sort of de ja vu from a round in Vegas in which I have a
really tough time against an opponent with spiritus (and/or flight)
who has better combat permanents than I (i.e. The Great Beast), the
only reason I took the Vegas table is because Jeff managed to let TGB
fall into torpor from a Walk of Flame he didn't save a prevention for.
I do not recall who his prey was but suffice it to say his deck had
agg in it (see where I'm going with this?). My predator was some
Gangrel deck that was probably good but never affected me in a way
that really hurt. Jeff was on the ropes immediately when he realized
he was in front of a stealth bleeder, though he managed to pull out
TGB anyway and eventually stabilize his situation. Jeff, a very good
player who knows how to balance attacks on his predator and prey,
gouged out a good position hurting both p and p and about to gain a
significant advantage when the bomb (and TGB) fell. TGB's inherent
prevent wasn't enough for Mr. Poole, he was cycling for the drop when
the agg came a-coming. So Robert (call me The Maintenance Man) Scythe
swept up the mess. What a harvest! More drinking ensued (continued?)
not sure what happened rest of the evening.
