At last week’s call, I wrote down a few questions about addenda.  It had been too long since I had looked at the schema to answer off the top of my head.

Addenda are modeled as sections like any other.  They are distinguished by the “code” and “title” attributes.  There can be as many repeats as necessary.  There is also an “effectiveTime” attribute that is blank in most sections.  Most sections have the same time stamp as the overall document.  This is called “context conduction.”  In addenda, we can populate the addendum section with an effectiveTime to show that it was created at a different time from the rest of the document.

That leaves only the issue of authorship.  We had simplified things by not implementing the Section/Author participation from full CDA.  If there are use cases where we want to indicate who wrote an addendum, I’ll need to add that to the schema and transforms.  The author of the main report remains the LegalAuthenticator for the whole thing no matter what.

I think it sounded like we are going to need Section/Author, but let me know before I invest too much time and have to send out a new version.

Mike,

Can Section/Author be an optional element? If so, then I’m thinking we should go ahead and add it in.

Yes that would be an optional element.  I’ll work on adding it.  Adding it to the schema will be pretty simple.  The two transforms will be the more challenging part, but certainly doable.

Thanks, Mike, I agree as well.  Wish the work didn’t all have to fall on you.  If only we could get a tester going that could also contribute to the schema as well as the transforms.

Mike,

I think that Section/Auhor would be useful for other sections like History that is authored by requesting clinician.
Perhaps, it could be made generic so that any section could include Author and effictiveTime.

Thanks,

The way CDA works, that change is going to automatically apply to all sections.  So your wish is my command!
