Besides setting --user and --login for download, you may also have to
set --no-auth-challenge for HTTP.

Hello H.Seldon,

Thank you for the info.
I just read the manual again.
In Wget 1.11.4, you may need to use --auth-no-challenge.
But Wget 1.10.2 does this by default.
I'm not sure we should set this to default or not.
But the man page seem to not recommend turning this on.

First, sorry I didn't post this as a reply to your first post. I kept
clicking on reply, but nothing happened. So, I posted it as a new
topic. I was not trying to hijack your post. Today, replying appears
to work for me.

I have --auth-no-challenge off for default settings. I have it turned
on for Rapidshare settings. I modified settings for Rapidshare and
saved them as 'Rapidshare'. I also saved default settings as 'Default'
in the 'Advanced' section. Now I can select between the 2 (or any
others) when I queue a file for download. If I want to temporarily
change the 'Default' settings to Rapidshare, I can do so, and change
it back to 'Default' when I am done. The point is, it is necessary to
check --no-auth-challenge to download using your Rapidshare account,
but it should not be your default method.

Hello H.Seldon,

I think normally we use HTTP authentication to protect private files.
That you may need to shared only on your company.
Or just for yourself, to be able to access your file over the
internet.
And preventing others from stealing your private data.

If you want to use it for the above purpose.
In version 2.4, I also provide vwget with wget 1.10.2.
Wget 1.10.2 use basic authentication by default.
