V6.0-000 significantly extends database file limits:

  • The maximum supported key size increases from 255 to 1,019 bytes.
  • Global variable nodes need no longer fit within a database block.  This opens opportunities for applications to consider smaller block sizes where these improve performance.  Also, the new maximum global variable node size of 1,048,576 bytes (1 MiB) means that any local variable node can also be stored in a global variable.
  • The maximum size of a database file is now 1,040,187,392 (992 Mi) blocks. Previously this limit was 234,881,024 (224 Mi) blocks.

For operations, MUPIP REORG TRUNCATE now reclaims and frees additional types of unused space from database files.  The IO impact of MUPIP INTEG FAST has been reduced, which should speed it up in many cases.

As usual, there are smaller enhancements and bug fixes, detailed in the V6.0-000 Release Notes at http://tinco.pair.com/bhaskar/gtm/doc/articles/GTM_V6.0-000_Release_Notes.html

Please do try V6.0-000 and let me know what you think.

Regards

The key size has to do with what can be stored in the database, and has nothing to do with the size of an input line of code, which in GT.M is 8KiB (a bit over 102 punched cards wide, for those old enough to remember them).

Wonderful!

Does expanded key size this mean that M code can be written in less terse, > 255 character lines?

Thoughts on the Mole 'vertical' M programming language?
