Subject: Virtual Yeshiva Video Update
Shalom Chaverim,

Live Webcam Video is now available on the VirtualYeshiva Educational
Server.

Two video quality settings are available: one for moderators, and
another for ordinary users.  Either may be set to "off" so that, for
example, the presenter sends video, but ordinary users do not.

Video is sent only for the person currently speaking, while their
microphone is actually live.

To prevent video from being sent, the speaker may close the video
window on their computer, or disconnect their webcam.  If the Web
Conference script cannot find an available webcam to use, then only an
audio stream is sent.

This feature is available in version 5.2 and later of the JAVA
software. Both Mac and Windows users can view live video, however, at
this time only Windows users can send video.  Version 5.2 should be
downloaded automatically upon your next login.

The video feature has also been added to the original Active X /
Windows ME version 4.4.3.0 as an executable file, available from
http://virtualyeshiva.com/vy4setup.exe

Please note that as of January 15, this new driver will be the minimum
version required to connect (please disregard if you connect using
JAVA).

The Virtual Yeshiva can utilize any properly installed webcam that is
recognized by Windows.  If your webcam does not function as expected,
verify that it works properly in other applications, such as one of
the many instant message programs, and be sure that your webcam is not
already in use by another application.

Most webcams incorporate a built-in microphone that becomes your
system's default microphone as soon as the webcam is plugged in.  To
change your system's default microphone, open the "Sounds and Audio
Devices" applet in your Windows Control Panel, and select your
preferred microphone.  You must leave and re-enter the Virtual Yeshiva
before it will use a new default microphone.

Webcam video is not currently available in recorded presentations, but
this feature will be added in the next update.

Ephraim
