Paul, if you google the following without the quotes
"appstore alarm app using voice commands", you should find some interesting
apps. Don't know if they are accessible or if they meet your needs.

Subject: Re: simple voice alarm without siri?

        Hi Hwee,

Yes I can use siri, but as long as 2 important bugs have not been fixed, I
can't use it for the moment. It sets my alarm just fine, but because using
siri sets my voice dialing to English rather than Dutch, using siri means
that I can no longer use voice dialing, as the phone is expecting English
sounding contact names, while all my contacts have Dutch european names. So,
even though using siri is possible here, I would rather not sacrifice voice
dialing just to use a limited set of siri features.

Another reason why I need to avoid siri until 2 issues are fixed, is, that
when you use siri in English, it will also activate the non-compact, premium
English voice, while in fact I use the Dutch premium voice all day. The few
times I need siri, for example to set an alarm, it is more than okay for me
if siri answers in English with a compact voice, so that my Dutch premium
well sounding tts voice remains in place.

I think more international users have this problem. Here's what happens. In
my current situation, I have voice dialing set to Dutch. That works like a
charm. In the settings, general, accessibility, voiceover dialog, I have use
compact voice set to off, so that it uses the full blown high quality voice
for Dutch speech output. Voice dialing and the high quality voice in my own
language are 2 things I appreciate very much on the iphone.

Once I turn on siri though, the following happens.
1. My voice dialing language changes from Dutch to English. That renders
voice dialing useless with my local contact names.
2. Where I had the high quality voice talk to me in Dutch, after turning on
siri, this is over. Instead, the phone uses the Dutch compact low quality
voice from then on.
3. Because of these 2 settings, siri input language and voice dialing, a
new, English compact voice is automatically downloaded and used. The new
high quality voice is English, and no longer the Dutch one.

So, loosing 2 important features for my own language, I can not use siri at
the same time I want voice dialing and the premium voice in Dutch.
Therefore, I need an app rather than siri, that I can talk to, to set my
alarms. Speaking English is not the problem. Siri gives me very accurate
results when dictating.

Thank you for thinking out of the box, but again, do you happen to know of
an app that one can talk to, that will let me set alarms just like you do
with siri?

Paul.
