Hi, I have never tried the tactil screen but I just want to say that a lot of experience a real learning curve when first starting with the iphone. I think we push ourselves to know everything, and if you take a relaxed attitude and just take your time, (you will not be the only one, i promise) you will learn a lot,and you will love it. I had a real hard time texting at first, thought I couldn't do it, but now I do it well, though if I were in a speed test, I probably wouldn't win.
There are lots of people here to answer questions. Enjoy.
Vicki Meizinger
I don't use a tactile screen cover, but I'm curious how one is able to determine what is on other pages of the screne, or is it just a series of reference points for the placement of the apps and the items in the dock?

I think it is a series of reference points on the screen, such as
common buttons, key placements for the virtual keyboard, and other
things. The trouble with the tactile screens is that if you use an app
that has things in different places, or even orients your phone/pod in
landscape view, the tactile screen does you very little good. I have
never used a tactile screen myself, so may not know what I'm talking
about. I used the touch screen for the first 6 months of having my
iPhone with no issues. When the tactile screens started coming out for
the iPhone last year, I figured that if I had used the phone with no
issues for 6 months, then why get a tactile screen. I suppose it is a
personal choice though. Another possible issue to consider is that the
screen orientations may not be clear. This is an issue if you ever
have someone look at your screen. If the tactile screen is not clear,
then your phone or devices screen cannot be visible to a sighted
person. If the tactile screens are clear, then this would not be a
problem. Those that have tactile screens say they can quickly move
around their screens. I can quickly move around my screen, but that's
mainly because I know where common items are supposed to be in the
apps I regularly use. I can also move quickly around the screen with
my bluetooth wireless keyboard, so again I suppose its a matter of
personal preference.

Hi, I have one of these on my 4S. I have the basic one which has most of the letters dotted. I think they are pretty good. They help with quickly orienting to certain parts of the screen. Even if it's not just in typing, there are other apps which I can use faster since I can go for the placement of certain dots. I highly recommend these.

I agree with Raul, the tactile screen protector is a useful item. I
have the basic one which has 5 dots along the bottom (they correspond
with the dock items and, for example, in Skype they match up with the
bottom row of options, the bottom right dot for example is the End
Call. It also has 2 dots right above on the very left and right which
on the virtual keyboard are the shift and delete buttons and then
there is F and J on the virtual keyboard. On the top left and right
the dots match most "Back" buttons on the top left and most "Done" or
"Cancel" buttons on the top right and there is a button which is on
the 5 if the dialpad is active. If you are in the mail app there is a
button on Send and if you are in the Messaging app there is also a
button for Send sort of on the right side of the phone in the middle.
I believe in total there are 15 dots, they are distinct but tiny so
they don't bother even a sighted person although they are noticeable,
I had sighted people ask me about them.

Let me throw my agreement in with Raul and Sieghard.
I am a very experienced IPhone user and use my device for everything but
phone calls all day long. I have had the Speed Dots.com screen protector
since about six months having an Itouch and it is most useful. It has become
a part of the device, really. When I don't need it, it doesn't seem to be
there, but when I can use a guide, it just seems natural to the phone. When
I went from using the Touch to the IPhone, I moved the screen protector.
Now, I use both devices everyday for different things, and it is quite
noticeable when I go to the Touch that does not have the Speed Dots.
I do have the version with the fewer dots. I do think the one with every key
marked could become bothersome, especially for me because I do lots of
reading on the device so am flicking my finger across the screen quite a
bit.
It is one of the best accessories I've invested in.

Many new iPhone users prefer our basic or standard model, because it makes
typing and overall orientation to the screen easier.
If you are still learning your iPhone, the tactile markings can also help
you with swiping straight.
In general, if people come to us as more experienced iPhone users, we
recommend the advanced layout, which has less dots. Also, if folks prefer to
type on an external bluetooth keyboard rather than the virtual one on the
phone, the less dots are helpful.
I've personally demonstrated our tactile screen protectors at conventions
and workshops, and have found that once they can see it on a phone, most
people who have assumed that the more dots would be bothersome, have
actually found them more helpful rather than hindering.
I think it's easy to make an assumption when you can't hold it in your hand.
We do tell people that the tactile screen protector is for use in portrait
orientation only, but we've also found that this is the prefered orientation
for most voiceover iPhone and iPod touch users.

The tactile markings on our screen protectors are for typing (the locations
where the letters are on the virtual keyboard are marked,) as well as
orientation.
So for example, I have the standard layout on my phone because I do a lot of
typing on my phone, and prefer to not have an external keyboard all the
time.
But when I'm not in text messaging, email, or any other app where the
virtual keyboard is visible, the dots on the screen can also help me quickly
find where a particular folder is on a certain page. So in my case for
instance, because of how I have my phone organized, I know that the
messaging app is located where the letter Q is on the virtual keyboard. If I
don't want to swipe around my screen, I can just go to it. Obviously that's
not something that would apply to everyone, because it's dependent on how
your screen is organized, but that's how I've used it.
In other apps, like Heytell for instance, I use the markings where the
letters are as a means of orienting so that I can quickly find the "select
contacts" button.
If you do use a tactile screen protector, (and perhaps other users can also
attest to this fact,) you really can do such orientation within other aps or
for locations of folders etc on the screen.
Also, standard iPhone controls in both our standard and advanced models are
marked, so for instance, if you're in mesaging, you can easily locate the
compose, send, add from address book, and cancel icons.
As someone who had a hell of a time dragging apps into folders, I also find
that the screen protector helps me for that. It helps me to go straight, and
also I can have a reference point on the screen where the folder I want is
located.

Hi Fred.
It helps me to go straight, and
also I can have a reference point on the screen where the folder I want is
located.

I don't use a tactile screen cover, but I'm curious how one is able to determine what is on other pages of the screne, or is it just a series of reference points for the placement of the apps and the items in the dock?

I'm happy to report, I ordered my speed dots yesterday. I bought both models, because I just couldn't decide. I have a feeling I'll like the standard model, because I'd love to speed up my typing, even though I have Siri. :)
